I've taken the day off today to clean, and you (unknown caller) have called me 3 times. Who the heck are you????

Honestly, I am new to caller ID, I never saw the need for it and now that I have it it's driving me crazy! I find myself wanting to ignore calls from my mother, and I'm a screening lunatic!

Who could this unkown caller be and why don't they leave a message? I feel like it's some kind of show down or something! I really don't feel that much good can come from answering it. I have blocked telemarketers, but this unknown caller must want something from me, don't you think?

Or maybe I won publisher's clearing house and I'll never know it?? :confused3

We get calls from "unavailable". I figure that if they are unavailable I am too! (they also never leave messages!)

Answer and pretend to be someone else until you know who it is.

For us it's usually the Red Cross telling us it's time to donate blood.

I have been the "nanny" a few times when unavailable calls

Do you have Cablevision? They call me at least 6x a day to try to get me to buy Optimum Online. When I do finally get rid of my dial up, I will be going to DSL.

I no longer answer the phone when it's unavailable or unknown caller. I let my machine screen it.

LOL, I've done that a few times myself! :rotfl:

I got that from my dad when the phone lines at his work got screwed up. The first time I ignored the phone, the 2nd time I answered and it was him

I have a blocked line so it shows up as "private" when I call people. I can unblock on a per call basis. I do usually leave a message when I call someone I need to talk to. When I have a long list of calls to make, I prefer to get answering machines, so I like that some won't answer the phone for blocked callers! And when I call a store to ask a question, I like my anonymity.

Why don't you just answer it like a normal person? If you don't want to talk to them you can just hang up or tell them not to call back. :confused3

tricia.

Last week we were getting calls from one of those. I finally answered because the poor thing tried to leave a message on our machine. She spoke no English and was looking for her Antonio. She was surprised and disappointed that he was not at the number she was given. Good thing I can speak a little Spanish!

I hate those unknowns!

Sometimes it's from my university. Sometimes it's from DH. Sometimes it's from someone I really don't want to talk to.

The past couple of weeks, though, our caller ID is totally screwed up. My DD's piano teacher called and it was listed as an attorney in town. My DH called me from a grocery store payphone and it was listed as the local radio station. Whacko.

What's the fun in that?

Nope, not answering it at all.

lol I am the same way, we've had the caller ID for only about a month now and I love it. We get about 3 unknown caller / unknown name throughout the day and it perplexes me...not enough to actually pick it and see who it is but it does perplex me nonetheless :) they never leave a message so I'm assuming it wasn't all that important.

We had a "private name/private number" call the other day....but it came in at 5 am! WTH calls people at 5am?!

And then there was last night's 4am phone call (on a different phone line). I wasn't about to get out of bed to answer that one. The only thing good about that phone call was that I have my Disney telephone on that line, so I heard the Mickey Mouse March instead of a normal ring.

Jerks. :rotfl:

I have never really understood ignoring telemarketer calls...won't they just keep calling back? At least if you answer and tell them were to go they will stop calling at least for a little while.

I was on the "do not call list" with my state for a while, but I switched providers and had to switch my prefix and have since been getting a lot of calls...time to get back on that list!

OK, do you think I will go to hell for yelling at Opera telemarketers? I am on the do not call list, but I buy opera tickets once in awhile, so I guess they are allowed to call me.

I should have known! They are the worst!!!!!!! They refuse to take no for an answer and call over and over and over. The last time they called, they said, don't you remember you asked us to call you back? What????

:confused3 NO! I said, in fact, I said not to call me ever again! So my mystery caller is them again???

I'm afraid I wasn't very polite. What do you want to bet this isn't the last I'll here from them again?

If you have a phone number you can go to www.anywho.com and do a Reverse Lookup.

Of course, not all numbers are listed but it's worth a try.

:teeth:

ETA: I realize this doesn't help OP, but it's good to know anyway.
