White vinyl fencing...

I love the look of the white vinyl fencing...looks so neat and clean compared to the old stockad wood type fence that looks crappy a year after you put it up. We have the vinyl fence on one side of my backyard (the neighbors on that side put it up) and I just powerwash it every year while I am powerwashing the house to keep it clean...reat of the yard has 6 foot chain link with the white privacy slates in it. If I had to get a new fence and couldn't afford the vinyl fencing I would get the chain link with the privacy slates anyday over the wood which looks old and gray, rots away, falls over...no thanks! I like maintainance free fencing!!

I just replaced my old white wood picket fence with vinyl. The wood was in a bad state of disrepair and we would have had to replace the whole thing since it was so old we couldn't just find repair sections.

I'm not a huge fan of the 6' solid vinyl, but my little picket fence looks amazing...and as another poster said, it really does make my front yard look bigger.

I Love my vinyl fence and the lack of upkeep I have to do. It always looks clean and sharp. Everyone around here has vinyl though and it was quite costly.

I bought my picket fence at Home Depot. Fifteen 8' sections, I think, plus posts, etc. for under $800. DBF installed it. I know the 6' stockade type is at least $70 per section.

Also, for do-it-yourselfers, Home Depot's fence came with hardware and top pieces -- Lowe's sold everything separately.

When we were in MO., white vinyl has been a mainstay for many years and MO has weather extremes. It does look good year after year. It is worth the $$$ over wood in the long run. You don't have to worry about bugs, weather extremes or staining.
So if you are looking for low maintenance it is a good choice.

I guess the biggest thing I see with the vinyl is that if it is not properly installed/leveled in which that imperfection will stand out.

There are a lot of them around here too. I think if you get a good quality one, you should be OK.

We have the old-fashioned wooden cedar fence which has weathered to a silvery-gray color. But we live in a Cape Cod style house in New England, so it fits.

Plus, it's a lot less work!!!! ;)

I see more and more of the vinyl, but mostly in the more upscale neighborhoods. Our property is bordered by lots of trees, and I tend toward natural landscaping (I just let it grow :goodvibes ) so a solid white fence would look silly here- maybe a short vinyl picket would be nice, though, so the green of the surroundings can show through. Personally I prefer untreated wood that turns gray- our back property line has this thanks to our neighbors.

We got a picket-type of fence on the sides and a six foot privacy fence i the back. Love the privacy fence - especially since the guy behind us has a pool and a really hairy back.
