Hi!

I am looking for a recipe, or at least a name or ingredient in the white rice at Tusker House. They had it for both breakfast and lunch. It looked like plain white rice, but it had an oily coating on each grain and a different taste. I couldn't place it and never asked.

It's not the curried rice salad or jollof rice. It literally was plain white rice with the most fragrant flavor, citrusy, floral, just different taste. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

HELP!! Thanks!

Heidi.

I think you may be refering to the jasmine rice.. it is a favorite of mine too.:goodvibes

But I've had jasmine rice before and it has never ever tated like this. Do you think they put an different ingredient in it? Did it taste floral/citrusy to you? And would you say the fat was oil or butter? It was just so silky and yummy, I just went back for bowl after bowl!!

It's jasmine rice. Although they may add oil or margarine to keep it from sticking.

I love this rice it's one of my favorites even at home.

Mamu, when you make it at home, does it taste like Tusker House? Do you just buy the Jasmine rice from the grocery store and boil it like regular rice? I'm so intrigued by this, if it's going to be as simple as boiling water and adding rice, I'm going to be one happy camper! Lol!!

Cook it the same as white rice.

Hi it is not plain jasmin rice like you get at the store -- I eat that all the time .. this rice tasted to me like rice pudding without the pudding part - it has something like cinnnamon or something in it.. I'd love the recipe if anyone ever finds it..

1 lb. basmati rice
3 cups water
1 Tbsp. Kosher salt
1/8 teas. ground black pepper
2 each cinnamon sticks
2 Tbsp. canola olive oil blend
1/2 each lemon cut in wedges
1 cup toasted almonds
1 Tbsp. Green Cardamom seeds

Procedure
1. Rinse Rice under cold water until water runs clear, around 20
minutes.
2. Put drained rice in rice cooker, cover with water, and add salt,
pepper, cinnamon, cardamom, oil & lemon and turn on. Stir every 10 minutes until done.
3. Remove from heat and toss into toasted almonds.

this recipe has been converted from a larger quantity in the restaurant kitchens and not tested for home use. The flavor profile may vary from the restaurant’s version.

Now I don't remember there being almonds in it but I am going to make this very soon, but I think I'll half it..
