Ok I know some of you have stayed at the Green Granite. We've stayed at Indian Head, Covered Bridge B&B and JackOLantern. Looking for other options. Any ideas?
Looking for a place to stay in July near attractions (not StoryLand)

tell me what attractions you want to go to. Do you want to stay in lincoln/woodstock, or go further north say to Bretton Woods??

Hi Brenda - Im thinking of the Lincoln/Woodstock area
Clarks Bears, Flume, skyride, Polar Caves (on the way up), etc
How easy is it to park at Whales Tale or for the Winnespausakee boat?
Which train ride would you recommend?

PArking for the Whale's Tale isn't usually too bad. Parking for the Mt. Washington (I'm assuming that's the boat you're talking about) can be a nightmare, particularly if you're getting on in Weirs Beach.

Sorry I can't help with the hotels - we're campers, and I've never needed a hotel near my house before :)

what other attractions would you suggest for a DS13?
thank you

Surf Coaster in Laconia is another good waterslide. Weirs Beach in general is pretty good for teenagers (arcade, boardwalk, etc). Funspot (a REALLY big indoor arcade/mini-golf/bowling etc) is fun too. There's plenty of hiking and mountain biking around.

We stayed at the Franconia Inn this past summer and loved it! It's close to Cannon Mountain, Clark's Trading Post etc. I highly recommend it :)

We did Clark's Trading Post last summer and enjoyed it. Although, my kids are 7 and yours is 13. But I think he will like the Bear Show anyways.

I'd recommend the Winnepesaukee Railroad. I think the scenery is probably better than that on the Hobo. For that, get on in Meredith. Parking is much easier. Parking is a nightmare in Weirs Beach, so if you want to go on the M/S Mt. Washington, pick another town to depart from.
I really was not impressed by Clarks. We'll leave it at that.
We like Lost River a lot, in addition to the Flume. Just don't do them on the same day like we did. The Basin (in Franconia Notch) is also great, and free (very very short, maybe 5 minute walk)
Can't really help with accomodations. Most of this stuff has either been day trips, or trips on our way to visit my grandparents for us.

Great!! I'm like 5 minutes from Clarks Bears:) There is a cute little motel called White Mountain Motel (my daughters friends parents own it (right beside Clarks and Kris Kristofferson I believe stayed there when they were filming a movie last summer). For a resort there is a resort called The Beacon, its huge, there are a few swimming pools and its located near The Whales Tale. Then there is The Village of Loon Mountain and Pollard Brook Resort. These are timeshare places but I believe you can stay there pretty reasonably.

One of my clients owns the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train (I think its on Chronicle tonight wmur 7:30), there is also the Hobo Railroad (which has a great mini golf course). Very easy parking at Whales Tale and I believe on Saturday nights they have night sliding and entertainment.

Lost River or Polar Caves
Smugglers mine
Weirs Beach
Surf Coaster

We stayed at the Comfort Inn right next to Clark's Trading post when we went up in August. It's on the main strip in Lincoln. The hotel was beautiful and had an indoor pool. They have a free continental breakfast too which my girls loved :)
Another thing we love to do with our girls is go to the Lower Falls on the Kancamagus Hwy... when we went last Aug., it was a stifling hot day and it was so much fun playing in the river and getting cooled down! The girls had a blast! We had a picnic lunch and spent about 4 hours there. Here are a couple of pics......

We did the Mt W boat out of Alton Bay last summer and did not have any trouble parking, but it can be busy in that area as well, and it's a longer hike from the area you're staying at than Meredith or the Weirs I think.

We stayed here Moutain Club on Loon in August 04 for a long weekend getaway on one of their package deals, met up with a DISer friend from Mass. who was there with her family too and we had a great time. She has two teen boys and my teen DD...they enjoyed a rock climbing wall right on the base of the Mtn , and Lost River, and the free lift rides to the top of Loon :)

We recently had this same question. What worked for me was I shot the chamber of commerce in NH an email, and within a few days I was flooded with tons of literature from all their attractions as well as there many resorts!
Good luck!

I would also suggest " The Science Center" in Holderness NH. Not far from Meredith. It is really nice there.

The Crista McAllif Planetarium in Concord NH is interesting also.
