White Glove Confusion

Just received my AMEX and called to make our deposit. I had a AAA rate booked. The reservationist told me I could not get the White Glove treatment with the "kind of reservation" I had. I would have to purchase a package that includes airfare, lodging, tickets etc. The reservationist I talked to the other night told me it only required payment of resort with AMEX. I checked AMEX internet site - they say required at least one night's stay and pay with AMEX to receive WGT. I was getting hot under the collar because he then said "I would know. I work both lines." Ooh, well thats not what I've read, heard etc. Anyway I told him I needed to do further research before booking. I hung up and called back and got a different reservationist who took my deposit and said it would be no problem for WGT even though I am only paying resort with AAA rate. The different discounts of the WGT are fairly important especially Downtown Disney. So, whos right? Should I call again and put the whole balance on my card about a month in advance, or should I just mention when I check in. Am I so greedy to try to get AAA discount and a few fringe benefits with white glove? I feel like I overpay enough on other things. And, whats this about needing to put a whole air, ground and ticket package on the card?? Does anyone know how this really works, or are we at the mercy of whoever answers our phone call? O.K. enough said - please give me some feedback :) I'm sorry for ranting, but I do feel better. We work hard for our money, and I just want to get the most for it! Thanks for what you know:)

I have never had a problem getting the discounts at Downtown Disney when using an AMEX card and staying onsite. It is the best discount there that I know of and I try to do as much shopping there as possible.

The clerks at the stores have no way to know what the room discount is if any. It will not matter.

If you pay for your room with amex (doesn't matter who books it) & ask at the front desk of your resort, they will give you whatever the current promo is. You just have to ask. 2 weeks ago I got 2 pin lanyards & pins, plus a list of discounts. Someone said there was a totebag, but I didn't get that.

At the world of Disney store, if you spend $50, are an onsite guest & pay with Amex, you get 15% off. I just asked for the Amex discount, showed the CM my room card & that was it!

Forgive me for beating a dead horse..... I have room only reservation using DC discount. If I pay my balance using an AMEX card, do I get the white glove treatment? Not that it is that white glove treatment is that great, but as one poster said, I am paying enough for this and any extra perks are appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance

All4wdw, yes, you are eligible for the White Glove treatment by paying one night stay with AMEX card.

Amex offers WDW vacation packages also called White Glove Packages or something like that. Those packages are all-inclusive of air, lodging, park passes, and include additional perks such as Storytime at AKL or Epcot, special fireworks viewing, etc.

Also, apparantly if you're a DVC member and provide an AMEX at check-in when you go home, you also get the WGT. Our trip over christmas week got us the lanyard, two pins, and a list of discounts. The discounts really came in handy once wifey-poo went wild in the Christmas store at DD. :)

Hope this helps,
Joe

:D According to the new DVC book it says we get the discounts but not the freebies. That's okay the discount is what I want.

I've paid for a land/sea package. How will I know if I'm eligible for parade viewing etc.?

I booked two nights at the ASMo and five at AKL. I already paid off ASMo's and was told that all I need to do is tell them at check in that I paid with my AMEX to get my pins, lanyards and brochures on discounts.

It is my understanding, however, taht you have to pay for two nights.

Since I am paying for both stays at two different resorts with my AMEX, I hope to be able to pick double share of tradable pins!

Don't count on getting tradeable pins with WGT....the pins you get are AMEX pins, not disney.:smooth:

If there is a connection, they are as good as any other tradable pins, such as Rain Forest Café's.

I find it difficult to believe that they'd give you that pin at the resort and then a CM refuses to exchange it.

Besides, with Mickey's white glove bluntly depicted on the image, the connection to Disney is obvious and the pins trade as well as any other in the parks.

Can someone give me a basic explanation of what the white glove treatment is? We are going to the BWI in april and I paid for the entire stay with my AMEX... but I have no idea what this entitles me too, if anything... any help is appreciated. Thanks :D

I am just wondering where to find a listing of benefits...could not find it on the AMEX site....thanks!

I tried to pull the link out of the search function but could not. Deb's site lists them all

Those American Express pins ARE tradeable with the CM's for any Disney pin on their lanyard. We were quite surprised - didn't think we'd be able to trade them, but we did with NO PROBLEM. One of our kids needed a lanyard too, so this White Glove perk was great for us :) By the way, we only paid 1 night with Am. Express and still were able to get the WGT.

Although I had paid our reservations last Aug with Amex, we only received WGT for making the payment at the front desk using Amex.

My current understanding is that only one nights payment is needed for WGT. They didnt have linyards or pins but we got the fanny pack and some very handy discounts (I dont know who did more damage at World of Disney, Mum or my twin nieces!)

BTW: If you put charging on your room key and intend to use it for buying discounted items using WGT savings, you must tell the person and be able to prove you are a cardholder ELSE wait (a long long time) while they ring the resort to confirm your details or better yet charge it directly to your Amex card.
