That sounds strange. I wonder if they will use makeup to make him appear black or if they will ask us to suspend belief and see him as a white man.

It's a half hour British comedy about Michael Jackson, Marlon Brando and Elizabeth Taylor taking a road trip cross country after 9/11. So I'm guessing the casting is purposely ridiculous. Lol.

It's a 1/2 hour British comedy based on the rumored trip Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando took on the day after 9/11.

(CNN)With all the controversy over #OscarsSoWhite, now may not have been the best time to announce that a white actor has been cast as African-American pop star Michael Jackson.

According to The Guardian, Joseph Fiennes will play the late superstar in a comedy to appear on the British channel Sky Arts. The half-hour show, called "Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon," centers around a fabled road trip in which Jackson, Elizabeth Taylor and Marlon Brando tried to get home to Los Angeles from New York after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

One of Jackson's former employees insisted to Vanity Fair in 2011 that the trip did happen and that the trio "actually got as far as Ohio -- all three of them, in a car they drove themselves!"

For some, the casting decision has been just as unbelievable as the idea that Jackson, Taylor and Brando (who supposedly insisted on frequent stops at fast food restaurants) would just hop in a car and take off cross-country.

As the debate rages on about the lack of quality roles for actors of color and thus the lack of representation at awards shows, one person tweeted, "Joseph Fiennes can play Michael Jackson. (A real person). But Idris can't play James Bond (a fake spy for a fake agency)?"

The tricky part about this is the vitiglio -- since the date portrayed is after Jackson's skin changed, casting a black man would mean making him up in whiteface if you want him to look like Jackson, because the truth is that Jackson's skin tone was paler than your average DEAD white man by 2001. Either way, it's going to look fake -- as Jackson himself did by then.

Wait Michael Jackson was black!!!!:confused3 He spent most of his making himself as white looking as possible, nose, bleaching etc.

He had a condition, at the time of his life while he was AA his skin was white or pretty close, having Will Smith portray him wouldn't have been accurate either.

While Michael Jackson was African-American, at that time his skin was most definitely white...whiter than most caucasians' in fact!

Someone commented this on a Facebook post about it and it made me laugh: 'At least Joesph can now join his broher Ralph in playing roles where their character have physical deficits in the nasal area...' :lmao:
