So I woke up in the middle of the night after having a dream about Whispering Canyon. I've never been there and really haven't heard anything about it. I feel like its been mentioned a lot on here though. Is it any good? I need to add one more dinner anyway but was thinking of just grabbing something one day without a reservation.

You will get a variety of opinions on Whispering Canyons. We like WCC. We find the atmosphere to be fun and the food good. They also serve one of my favorite appetizers, the BBQ pork spring rolls. We have eaten there twice and already have it booked for our upcoming trip.

We ate there on our last trip. It's was OK. It's nothing to get excited about, imo. My husband did love the Canyon Skillet.
What makes this restaurant stand out is not the food, it's the atmosphere. If you get lucky enough to get a server willing to play a few pranks on you you leave there feeling it was well worth the adequate food.
If you aren;t so lucky you leave there feeling jipped.

Went for first time our last trip and it was alot of fun, I love BBQ so it was great for me! My wife is not as much a fan of BBQ, and my kids did not like the pasta from kids meal. We really enjoyed the themeing, and the humorous banter with the CM's. WCC, is not something we would do every trip but we would go back again.

We went last year and were very disappointed in the way previously mentioned. I personally don't like the type of service such as here or 50's Prime Time, but agreed to go because the kids would enjoy it. The food was OK, but we could get the same or better at Trail's End for much less. The "atmosphere" and "antics" that we came for were none existent. Our waiter was very dry. There was one pair of waitresses who were doing some of the usual tricks at their tables, but that was less than 1/3 of the restaurant. It was mostly a noisy room of mediocre food. So far, it is the only Disney TS restaurant that we've eaten at that we probably will not go back to.

We went to WCC for the first time this past trip. We loved it! My husband, son, and I had the skillet. DD10 had the kids hamburger. All of us thought the food was good and we are from Texas, so we know good barbecue! I loved the ribs. Dessert was just as good...we enjoyed our server and the atmosphere! We were there on January 4th after a full day at Animal Kingdom. We would certainly go back!

Here's some pics from our Christmas in 2010 - we love the WCC so all 15 of us went for Dad's birthday - my teens adore the all-you-care-to-eat-skillet, so it's a must-do every trip.

Here's my kids with their bottomless milkshakes and my oldest son asked for some ice water, thus the large glass of water!

A tip for eating there to save money - go for lunch - it's $10 cheaper for the skillet because you don't get some extra meat - still yummy, and their corn bread is amazing!

We went last yr. for the first time(me, DH and DD6)and really liked it. We all got the skillet, but we all enjoy BBQ. Our waiter was one that actually participated in all the antics. But, if you don't enjoy those type of dining atmospheres, then you may need to reconsider, but we didn't mind. My DD loves ketchup, so she fit right in:)

This is a very niche restaurant that will get lots of strong opinions on both sides. The WCC is very casual, highly interactive (if you want it to be), and has decent to good BBQ food. We have eaten there twice once just DW and me and once with a table of 8. We liked it both times.

This is not a place to eat if you want a quiet, uninterrupted meal. If you like BBQ give it a shot.

WCC is wonderful, and since we've stayed at WL at 7 times, we've definitely visited WCC a lot. My suggestion is to also consider breakfast, we enjoyed it much more than dinner, but that might be because the dinner "pranks" we experienced was not as lighthearted as breakfast. Like someone said about, consider going to lunch, since it's cheaper, but WCC is good food, it just depends on your expectations and taste buds.
Hope you have a fantastic vacation!

I think it's a place one needs to do at least once. It's fun, noisy, food is just OK (not bad). But the experience is worth it. At least once...
