we are headed to WL in a couple of weeks and am wondering if Whispering Canyon is a must do? We are on the quick service dining plan so we would be paying oop and would be doing lunch. I made a reservation but just wanted to get your opinions.
I know we will head down to DTD and eat at TRex!

I haven't done it yet but I hear/ read good things and bad things but i would think if you are staying at the same resort I would say it would be a must. people will say their are better places to dine but i would say that it never hurts to try a place at least once.

I have always had good food here but it's never really a must-do for me. One thing I don't like about it (but others LOVE) is the antics in the restaurant - lots of role playing, games for kids, etc. It can get loud.

just got back from Wl a few days ago and ate at Whispering Canyon. The food is medocore at best but the atmosphere is quite fun. Our waiter was funny and good. I wouldn't say it should be called a must do next time.

We loved it there but we have only been once, but it made it to our must do for this next trip, we had the skillet at dinner time and we thought it tasted like as if we had bbq'd at our own house, so we thought it was great! With a fun environment, our waitress didnt joke or play around with us and it was nice cause we got to watch everyone else and just enjoy our evening.

You could take a look for yourself and then decide. It's not a problem to peek in. Since it won't likely be packed this time of year you could probably get a quick ADR (or make one now and then cancel if need be).

To get the full effect, you'll need to try dinner. At breakfast (or slow lunch time) your server just might set down and have a chat with y'all.

WCC is a must do for us every trip.

It is DH's favorite restaurant. He likes the skillet and the antics. I like the ribeye, it is wonderful, very tasty and tender.

Never had a bad experience or bad food there yet. And the boat ride from MK is nice too!

It's a must do for me every trip. The food is good, DBF still talks about his bottomless milkshake. He had 3, btw. As one of the PP's stated, the bus ride over is very relaxing. Lunch time tends to be less busy than breakfast or dinner. It's usually my midday break from MK.

we did it while staying at wl in april(beautiful btw) but we didn't have the greatest server. she didn't get as into as some of them did. hubby ordered the skillet which he didnt eat much of. i ordered the steak and it was mostly fat so i was very disappointed. we are going to be brave and try it again in feb tho. dd loved the horse rides tho and that was the big reason for going back.

Last December we did breakfast at WCC and it was not good! Food was cold, and service was not up to par at all. But I really wanted to try the skillet for lunch or dinner so last minute before this recent trip I made a lunch ADR. Food once again was not good at all and service was lacking. Sadly, I have to say WCC is the first restaurant to make my "never again" list.

I've eaten lunch at WCC a few times & I've loved it every time. Their lunch skillet is really tasty (especially the smoked sausage & mashed potatoes) & I've always been very pleased with their service. I also love the woodsy atmosphere of the floor to ceiling windows. If I were you, without a doubt, I'd check it out!

There is better food out there at some of the other restaurants. As others have said, it is more atmosphere than anything else. The biggest issue we have with it (we did both breakfast and dinner on our last trip - but we were staying at WL) is the speed. It took almost 2 hours for dinner, over an hour for breakfast.

Thanks for the opinions!!! I went ahead and made the reservation and I can always cancel if it is something we decide against. I chose lunch since we will be paying oop. I made our ressie on the day we will be coming back to the room for a rest before heading to the MNSSHP that night!

We have stayed at the Wilderness lodge 3 years in a row so far. We ate at Whispering Canyon last year and this year. This year my husband and I looked at eachother after eating there and said "never again". lol. I would definitly eat there once to get the experience of the place. But we found eating there once was good enough for us. Even my kids aged 7 Years old and 6 Years old were bored of it this year.

So far it's a must do. Last year was our first time there and DBF has reminded me ever since that we need to go back this time. Even though I've told him countless times that I've already booked ADRs and we will be going back. I think he sees me eyeing up our ADRs and thinks I'm going to ditch it for something else. ;)

We ate there last week and had a good time. The staff was great and alot of fun for the kids.....that being said, the skillet was not good, much better chicken and ribs at Cosmic Ray's, we all had the never empty vanilla milkshakes and they were great! Our waitress even insisted on making us one to go along with our desert since we didn't eat much of the meal.We had a really good time and the place is beautiful and yes I would go back.

Its a must dont for us...we were staying at the WL and decided to eat there for lunch before we left for home. The food was terrible and I cannot see us going back there again

We did once and will never go back... The food was good but our server was awful. We were left sitting at our table for up to 20mins at time before our sever would come by and check on us. Then when it was time to pay we waited nearly 40 minutes for her to come back with my card. Then she had the nerve to complain about her tip. She was lucky she even got one at all

Never again!!!

I'd say give it a try. We went last year and I almost cancelled it because I heard a few bad things but I figured we would see for ourselves. Well it was GREAT the food and our service. Infact our last night there I cancelled our Crystal Palace to go back there. When it was times to start planning for our ADR's for Dec that was the one place all of us listed as a must do. (my DH wanted me to book dinner there 5 out of 10 nights- we comprised and I booked 3).
