Whispering Canyon...Thoughts?

Our family likes it. If you are not in a "fun" mood ask to sit in the library. It is much quiter. For a "fun" evening sit in the main room.

Even asking for the main room doesn't guarantee a fun time. I have never say anywhere but the main dining room.

I just want the old WCC to come back that place was wild!

DH and I ate there last June while staying there. We had the skillet, DH thought it was fine but nothing to rave about. I thought it was very good. Our waitress through the straws but that was it. I assumed it was because we were two adults. She did, however, give us very good service and encouraged us to have more and more and more. We were too stuffed for dessert when we left and had to get it as take out. :rotfl:

We did sit in the "library". But believe me, the night we were there NOTHING was going on in the main room either...not during the 45 minutes we waited past our ADR and not during our dinner. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I think it really depends on who is working that night as to the "amount of entertainment" you might get.

We must have been in "the library" because although we were in the same room we seemed to be over to the side away from the main area. Our waiter was not as enthusiastic as those in the main area but that worked out fine for DS who embarasses easily.

One of the waitresses was absolutely hilarious & I found myself almost glad she wasn't ours but did enjoy seeing what she put some poor man at one of her tables in the main area through. I still laugh thinking about it :rotfl:

Then as my husband was ready to pay the bill, our quiet shy acting waiter decides to pipe up and announces to the entire restaurant....well, I won't ruin the surprise in case you haven't been & this is a "canned" line still used but anyway, we had a good time.

And the food wasn't bad, not great, but satisfying. I'd go back again.

A trip tradition for us, we love it there, we enjoy the food but have always gotten the skillet so not sure of other menu items. My oldest dd who some how is a bean pole in our family of Pooh sized people can put down the ribs in this place, last time our waitress was really funny and asked to check her pockets for ribs on the way out:goodvibes

i was very excited to try this after my phsiotherapist recommended it highly her last trip. i was neither really impressed nor disappiointed. our server was tame compared to others there. she did toss around our napkins and did the ketchup thing with us, but so many more were so much more into it. we saw one table who had an amazing server pull out all the stops- i wish we had him. now i will admit the milkshakes were to die for!!! our cornbread was really dry, like swallowing sandpaper. kinda ruined it as i love cornbread, and very rarely if ever get it in canada. dh had the skillet, i had one half of a pcs of corn and it was yucky. my steak that i ordered, about half of it was fat and went into the garbage. i ordered the pecan pie(bourbon pecan pie to clarify) and expected it to taste like home. the flavour was so overwhelming i only ate half.

onthe other hand dd loved the pony rides around the restauratn and ds loved delivering the ketchup. they had fun and to me thats what really mattered.

We had a salad that was so bad we took a picture of it. We called it Salad soup.

 I am so sorry you had such a bad experience!

I'm hearing a lot about this skillet...I think I will definitely try it!

That is cute...we will have 3 boys (10, 5, and 2) They like BBQ and I thought this would be a good idea. Despite the mixed reviews, I think we're gonna give it a try!

Good for you!:thumbsup2

My 3 boys absolutely LOVE this place! They LOVE passing the ketchup, they LOVE the milkshakes, they LOVE all the hootin' and hollerin'! They begged to go back again this year, so we have it booked for September.

As for the food - it's ok. We always get the skillet so everyone can pick and choose what they like.

Which is better at WCC? Breakfast or Dinner? Im staying at WL so I figured it would be an easy chance to try WCC. Based on this thread I am leaning toward a breakfast at WCC. Let me know which u prefer! TIA

Breakfast is much quieter, but you might get some good one-on-one time with your server. Our server sat right down and talked with our kids for several minutes.

Fellow Tar Heel with three boys here -- we like WCC, and I bet you will, too. We've always found the food good and plentiful. How crazy the experience is depends a good bit on the server and the crowd that night. We've had a server looking for a girlfriend for one of our teens and our oldest "Cupcake" was once sent to the kitchen to get his own milk. Ask for Heada Lettuce. She's not only one of the best, but she's also a sometimes DISer.

So this skillet thingie...does it feed more then one person, or do you just order it for yourself? How does this work? I am growing more intrigued as the days get closer... :surfweb:

Hey tar heel! Thanks for the tip! Nice to see a neighbor on here! I'm in Mint Hill! :cheer2:

I'll do better than just the skillet!:goodvibes

It is one of our favorite places to eat. We live in the Orlando area and will go there for a special night out for all 6 of us. It is a beautiful resort!

Our whole table ordered it. They brought plenty and would continue filling it...even when we said we were full! :lmao: We have had such great servers here. It has become a tradition; dinner time has always been the best for us. It really was a rompin stompin good time!

Wow! Thanks for posting those pictures! I'm sold! Definitely gonna get the skillet! (although I can see why some people call the salad "soupy" - looks like there's lots of dressing on it) I can't wait to share this place with my family! :cool1:
