I've read a few online reviews of Whispering Canyon at Ft. Wilderness, and am thinking of taking the family on our arrival night. What do you guys think of this place?

Also - can you see MK fireworks from Ft. Wilderness? I am not too familiar with this place! :confused3

Whispering Canyon is at Wilderness Lodge not Fort Wilderness. Our family does like it there. If you want Fort Wilderness then your choices are Trails End Restaurant, Mickey's Backyard BBQ, or Hoop Dee Doo. Trails End is a buffet, Mickeys and Hoop Dee Doo are both dinner shows.

It's okay. We ate lunch there last trip. We stayed at the Villas and thought we'd try it out. Good enough burgers, but nothing special.

We ate there last trip, it was okay, nothing to write home about. Good enough burgers, okay meal. The resort is gorgeous! We stayed there, amazing time!:)

From the reviews of WCC that I've read, it seems to be hit or miss. We saw it as a huge MISS! Food was not good, nor was it very entertaining, in our family of 4's unanimous opinion. We ordered an appetizer that was not good and the skillet was just yucky (we love a good BBQ meal, this didn't do it for us). We also stayed at the WL, we enjoyed the theme and the beauty of the lodge, but will not return to that restaurant unless we stay there again, would not go out of the way, but might give it another try.

From the beach near WL, you can see the EWP at 9:35, and SOME of the high fireworks from Wishes, but you cannot watch the whole Wishes show with the castle and low effects like you can from the beach at the Poly or GF, or the observation deck at CR. I doubt you'd be able to see much from Fort Wilderness, either, because it seems far and like there would be lots of trees in the way, but I don't know for sure.

If you want to have dinner and Wishes from outside the park, I recommend a restaurant at one of the monorail resorts.

Whispering Canyon is at Wilderness lodge, as already stated. You can't see the fireworks from either Whispering Canyon or any of the restaurants at Ft. Wilderness. I don't even think you can see them stepping outside, usually you are too low to see much from the ground level. The Whispering Canyon has pretty good food, and the entertainment/atmosphere are great if you have kids. Otherwise, for adults it is just kinda goofy (IMO).
If you want a place you can see the fireworks from, go to Ohana's close to 1 hr or so before fireworks go off. You can also see them from the beach areas at the MK area resorts (Grand, Poly) and some from areas at the Contemporary. You would just have to be done dinner and head outside before they start. ;)

WCC has joined the list with Boatwright's and Hollywood & Vine of NEVER to return, could not pay us to eat at again. The skillet was gross--everything in it; it made my DH sick and the service was non existent. The barbecue ribs, beans are MUCH better at Flame Tree.

We went last year and we loved it! The brisket was okay, my MIL makes it.. so no way was it going to hold a candle to hers.. but everything else was divine.

Best cornbread ever.

I am not sure where these bad reviews are coming from, makes me nervous. We are going to try the WCC again. I love the WL lodge to walk around and absorb the atmosphere!

WL is great, and you can see the fireworks from a few locations there, though as one poster noted, not the low-level ones. But, you can get the excitement of them, nevertheless, along with watch the EWP, as well. Plus, you can walk around the grounds of WL and enjoy the peacefulness from the beaches or along the nature trail heading out behind the bike shop. As for WCC itself. . .sorry, but I have to agree with what most have said: my experience there (twice) has not been good. The food is just okay--didn't hate it but didn't love it, either--and it's expensive if you do the all-you-care-to-eat skillet meal. The fun factor totally depends upon your server, and neither time did we have a server who wanted to have fun. . .nor apparently serve us our drinks. . .or bring us refills. . .or remember the check until I flagged her down 20 minutes after I had asked her the first time. However, I do know some people have a great time there and enjoy the food. Good luck with your choice!

It really does get mixed reviews. Sometimes I cannot believe we are all writing about the same place!

Its a miss for us. The waiting area was insane (a child attacked another kid over the Lincoln log table thing. It was ugly!) so we took our pager and sat by the rocking chairs on the other side of the lobby. This is the only place we have ever had a LONG wait, it was almost an hour past our ADR time when we were seated. It was a zoo! That didnt help our experience. Then the food just didnt live up to the hype. Dd didnt even like her kids meal, first time ever at Disney! My vegetarian enchilada was gross, baked beans in and over a shell. Ughhhh! We didnt even bother with dessert, we wanted to head out and find some other food!

We want to try each disney place once and were really looking forward to the antics and food here. The straws were thrown at us and that is it. Dd got to run with ketchup just once. Maybe the kitchen had an off night with the backup on ADRs, I dont know but this meal has become the butt of our family dining out comparisons. This and Captn Jacks are the only Disney places I will never eat at again!

Which is better at WCC? Breakfast or Dinner? Im staying at WL so I figured it would be an easy chance to try WCC. Based on this thread I am leaning toward a breakfast at WCC. Let me know which u prefer! TIA

I'm a fun gal <REALLY> but dinner service at WCC with the encouraging kids to run from table to table with ketchup bottles left me tense. It was noisy, the food average. Not a "must do" again in my book:confused3

I am seriously considering asking the waiter to just bring the whole loaf out for me. Everytime they stop by the table I have to ask for more. It is so good!

Thanks for the clarification...Lord know where I would have ended up! :lmao:

We will have three young boys! Thanks!

As stated above...we're gonna have three young boys with us. I'm thinking this is a great idea!:woohoo:

Ok...we're booked for arrival day! I LOVE cornbread!!! :thumbsup2

We have eaten there three times now and love it! I always can't believe it gets bad reviews. Dinner was definitely more enjoyable. The servers we had were fantastic and the skillet is super yummy. I think for young children especially this is a great place to eat. Enjoy!

It is soooooooooo good!! And this is coming from someone who hates cornbread with a fiery passion of a thousand suns. lol.

I've been dreaming about that bread for awhile. :)

We always eat there and we LOVE it! Maybe we've been lucky with wait staff and having fun- I'm sure that helps! I thought the food was pretty good (cornbread.....mmmmmm).

I enjoyed both the breakfast and the dinner skillet. Our server both times however was not into the antics and we sat and watched other diners having fun with thier servers but both times ours was boring and didn't play along or wasn't into it. Even though I enjoyed the food, the chaos was too much especially when you are left sitting on the side line. I think the place is hit or miss.

I have been going to Disney for years. WCC was always a MUST DO for us. The servers were such fun the food was ok.

Last 3 times the servers were a LOT lless fun. There are no more napkin hats, a lot less sthick. The Pony rides are precorded and on a schedule. It's just not the same.

The food the last 2 times was border line bad.

The first time it happened I figured it was just an off night.

The last time it happened I said NEVER AGAIN.

I am just not giving up a meal at a good restaurant to sit in a restaurant that is going to serve me terrible food and so so entertainment.

Sometimes I really morn the old WCC.

I say find another place to dine.

Lisa

As long as that is all you are planing to eat you will be fine.

We had a salad that was so bad we took a picture of it. We called it Salad soup.
