My DH and I will be in Disney 2/5-2/12. We will be staying at the WL and we are of course beyond excited being that we're 25 days out. Anyway... we really want to eat at the Whispering Canyon Cafe, and so far when I check reservations online they are pretty open on Sunday evening and Wednesday evening ( the only 2 I've checked). Our plan is as follows (QS will be tossed in here and there but I did not list them below):

Saturday - (early flight) LTT at MK for dinner

Sunday - HS day: Kona breakfast - Fantasmic at 7

Monday - Epcot day: Le Cellier Lunch/ Teppan Edo Dinner

Tuesday - Universal/ Margaritaville (YAY!)

Wednesday - AK day: Tusker House breakfast

Thursday - Open: Fulton's for dinner (oop-YUM)

Friday - Open: O'Hana dinner

Saturday- QS before we leave (later flight)

As you can see I have a couple open nights and we know we want to eat at HOB or PH at DD one day, but dunno if we'll be too tired after fantasmic. Also don't want to feel too rushed. Should I reserve WC since it seems so open or just keep watching until it gets closer?

I would make the reservation now and cancel during your trip if you change your mind.

I stayed at WL and at no time during my 8 day stay were they packed or busy. If I were you then I would skip WC. The food wasn't very good and it is a very loud atmosphere. There were kids running all over the place. Not a place I would recommend to eat at. You would be better off picking a nicer place to eat at.

We loved it! My kids thought it was fun and the food was good. We made a reservation after we got to WL, and the only thing open was at around 8:30 at night. So, to be safe, I would go ahead and schedule it. ;)

I would make a ressie. You can always cancel. We stayed in March 2010 at the WL and it was very busy. My sisters family tried to go back a second night and could only get take out food.

Our families had a lot of fun eating there. The food was ok but the thrill of eating there is for the kids and by that I mean kids of all ages. Be careful not to ask for ketchup unless you want a table full of it...lol And if your child complains about his crayons, watch out. You may get hundreds of them. Between the singing, kids riding the horse sticks and my sons and nephews asking for ketchup and crayons we had so many laughs. The kids got a real kick out of the excitment and fun things they were aloud to do in a restaurant. If you are looking for a quiet dinner, this is not the place to go. But if you are looking for excitment and laughs, I would definately recommend it :dance3:

We like WCC, but think of meal time as a chance to unwind and regroup. We always request a table in the quiet room (library? study?) which is separate from the main dining room. There are none of the antics or the noise so it is perfect for us.

Good idea if we ever decide to eat there again.

Thank you for your input. Noise really isn't a concern, I work as a school psychologist (around large groups of kids often) and my husband is a police officer so we deal with it a lot. The type of food they serve is the kind my husband grew up on and really loves. We also have close friends that LOVED the food and atmosphere. We are excited to give it a try. Thank you everyone. I'm going to do the smart things and make a late ressie for Sunday. Can't wait!!

Absolutely make a res. They are always packed with hug wait times whenever we stay at Wilderness!

First off let me say welcome to the DIS. :goodvibes

Now with that out of the way, remember, how you feel about WCC is only your opinion and may differ from someone else. Perhaps, explaining how the food was not very good to you may be more helpful, especially when telling someone to avoid a place.

I agree, the atmosphere can be very loud and yes, kids are often running around with their pony races and etc, it's all part of the atmosphere (loud and energetic, I love it). As for not being packed or busy, I would ALWAYS recommend an ADR for any WDW restaurant including this one. I have stayed at the WL three times and have eaten at WCC four times ( love the food and atmosphere) and they have been very busy.

Again, welcome to the DIS and please don't take this as a flame toward you. ;)

My experience with WC: I've always been able to make same day ADR which allows us to be more flexible with our planning. Depending on season, you may not get the exact time you want doing it this late.

I would just make a reservation and if you change your mind you can call up and cancel. I wouldn't want to risk ending up not able to get the reservation and time I want when it had been previously available.
