On our first night we want to get some "wilderness" into our vacation. I am looking for your thoughts on these two restaurants.

It will be me, DH, DD15, and DDBFF15 (her first visit!). Possibly significant bit of personal trivia: DDBFF LOVES ketchup so much that DD gave her a commercial-sized jug of it for her birthday once :rotfl:

We've been to Trails End before--in 2004, and we liked it, or at least didn't not like it ;). Never been to WCC. I have researched the basics, but reviews are so mixed I am having a hard time deciding. Help...please! Love it, hate it, indifferent...and why?

Thanks!!

Never been to Trails End but do want to try it. But if given a choice I definately go with WCC. Good food and fun.:thumbsup2

I have never been to Trails End but I can tell you we love WCC. In fact we have ADR's there in August. :thumbsup2

Another here who hasn't been to the trail's place but love WCC.

WCC is DH's favorite restaurant at WDW. He loves the antics and the all you can eat bbq skillet.
I love the ribeye, one of the best I have ever had.

I assume you have researched and found out they do a little "antic" with ketchup, quite funny and since you have a guest in your party that loves ketchup....that could be a lot of fun!

We also love the boat ride over from MK. It is so relaxing and nice.

Also we had the best dining experience at WCC last visit. We were on our belated honeymoon and they were the only restaurant that really acknowedged it. They made a huge deal over us, gave us champagne, desserts and later I found out the manager had made a call to our resort stating that they were the first to make a big deal over us, 5 days into our vacation and wondered why the resort hadn't done anything yet.
Needless to say the resort got with it and gave us 2 presents and a balloon bouquet.
The manager really cared about our experience and rallied around to ensure we were treated special at other places....that is customer service!!

We really like WC and always include it when we go to WDW. This year we are going to include Trails End. It looks good to me and it gets good reviews.

We have been to both and we prefer Trails End. The food is really good and the atmosphere is very relaxed and fun.

WCC is ok - the fun is hit or miss depending on your server.

Never been to Trail's End, but I would recommend any restaurant at Disney (well, not Hollywood & Vine) over the Whispering Canyon Cafe -- gross food and lousy service.

We have been to both and like WC more. The lodge is really nice and the service has been really fun every time we have been there. Trail's End is fine and the trip to the Fort would be fun but it is not as good as WC. If you do go to the Trail's End be sure to check out all of Pioneer hall and the trading post - it is a nice walk and cool wildernessy places to hang out.

We've been to both and would chose Trails End every time. Since its a buffet, everybody will find something the love and the price is better than most other Disney buffets.

You also get more "wilderness" at Trails End.

hands down.... Whispering Canyon Cafe!!! Especially, if you are on the Dining plan - definitely NOT worth wasting a credit here.

The food there is great. Personally, the last time that I was at Trails End, I did not like the food at all. I am one to try something or a certain place at least 2 or 3 times before I decide if I don't like it. Everytime that I went here, the food was not good. It was either just "ok" or "bad". Then later, we ALL ended up having stomach problems later. This happened each time that we went. Not sure what it was. :confused3 Unless they drastically change the menu since late 2008, I will not go again.

But, WCC was GREAT every time that I went. Been there for both breakfast and dinner. Plus, the environment there is enjoyable, fun and interactive.

Good luck whatever you decide.

We love WCC but on the other hand we have never been to Trail's End. With that being said we plan on going there in Nov for breakfast.

Ditto! Well, our service wasn't lousy, but it certainly wasn't great, and there were almost no antics the night we were there, not even a pony race. It was by far our most disappointing dining experience to date.

Not only did we have a lot of fun at Whispering Canyon the food was very good, too. Our son loved the fact that he could have milkshakes with refills. No one in our party ordered the skillet, but everyone was very happy with their individual meals. Dessert was very tasty, too. The waitress we had was in character and the whole place was just a lot of fun.

Funny, I've noticed a trend lately, seems the people who have the bad experience with the food have ordered the skillet. I really wished we hadn't ordered that! Some of the other menu choices looked pretty tasty. If we ever stay at WL again, we may give WCC another try and NOT order that yucky skillet.

OP, I want to add that IMO, the best "taste of wilderness" in WDW in our opinion is HDDR. It is a very fun hoot for the whole family. And the food comes out of the same kitchen as Trail's End. I know it's expensive, but we have always felt that it's one of the best bangs for your buck in WDW! Just some food for thought...

Thanks EVERYONE for your input...great 'food' for thought. I would love to do HDDR, but it's just not in the budget, and this night is OOP. I was leaning toward WCC, but when I just showed DD15 the menu...not the positive reaction I was looking for :confused3

Fun

AGREE with this post!

DS18 and I LOVED WCC Breakfast but we ordered OOP.... I LOVED the omelet and DS had a great pancake breakfast....ANTICS? Well we had the beloved MT...a waitress who was awesome and 'got into the antics'... DS had the HUGE COCA COLA... another patron requested the ketchup so we saw that... it was hilarious!

WE LOVED HDDR FOOD!

Never done...but would love to try...Trails End! :)
