Whispering Canyon or Hollywood & Vine?

Hi, my family is going to WDW Sept 27-Oct.4 and while we're there, we will be celebrating my son's 10th birthday. We made our dining reservations back in early July and the agent recommended Hollywood & Vine out of the available reservations.

After looking online though (and will research more thoroughly next time!), I'm trying to decide whether to cancel H&V and take him to Whispering Canyon instead...was able to get an ADR online for it. We're on the DDP.

Could any of you recommend one over the other as we are new and confused. TIA!

whispering canyon is fun and unique. Hollywood and Vine is just your basic buffet.

Do any characters show up at H&V? Just wondering why the agent recommended it...now I'm thinking she just wanted to get me off the phone as Whisp. Canyon DOES seem more lively than H&V from the reviews I've read.

characters at H&V are only for breakfast and lunch not dinner.
Characters that are scheduled include Jo Jo and Goliath from Jo Jo's Circus and June and Leo from the Little Einsteins. It's basically playhouse disney characters not the regular characters. Not sure if you are familiar with those characters but they tend to be geared for younger kids. If you son likes those all the better. But that is for breakfast and lunch not dinner.

Thank you! No, he's not really into those charac. anymore tho my 4 year old DD prob would be. Since its his birthday tho, we want to make it more enjoyable for him.

If I knew then what I know now, I would've gone online and tried to book Ohana as he LOVES Polynesian food...we have a local rest. called the Omni Hut that he enjoys.

Oh well...live and learn! This is our 2nd trip...last was in 2003. I've read a little on here about people getting up early on the 90 day mark and we actually thought about waiting til closer to our depart. date to schedule ADR. HAHA...glad we didn't!

yes 90 day mark is the way to go. I did that yesterday morning for our upcoming trip. Got all we wanted. Don't give up on Ohana. Opening do come up. Check online or give them a call, they may have something for you available at Ohana. It's really good. We are going there again this upcoming trip.

Whispering Canyon! Stay away from H & V - horrible food and lousy service.

Thank you all for your advice...now to convince DH! We have CP at 10:15 AM and the Whisp. Cany. is for 5:25. He thinks we'll be too rushed at MKingdom to make it in time...no park hopper tickets.

9/28 Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner
9/29 Crystal Palace Break.& ??Whisp. Canyon Dinner
9/30 no TS
10/1 Boma Dinner
10/2 Scheduled for H.& Vine Dinner

10/4 Chef Mickey Break.

We'll pay OOP for one meal. I need to find out which would be most economical to pay for.

If your son is outgoing, then I think he would have a fantastic time at Whispering Canyon!
