Whispering Canyon...once was enough

Unfortunately this restaurant has come off my list after an appalling experience last time. We were there for at least an hour before our order was even placed. There were some allergen issues and basically our server just had no idea what was going on. When we finally got food, it was not up to the standards I had experienced previously there. Total disappointment! Just too many other good places to risk going back anytime soon!

Was it just the two of you dining there? It's always just DH and me, no kids, and we find the antics are much more subdued with no kids. Especially compared to surrounding tables with kids. We've never had the ketchup thing happen, or the gallon of soda. A few minor things, nothing crazy. We prefer it this way, but it is noticeable if you're wanting the antics.

As far as the food, we've eaten there three times and enjoyed it each time. BBQ can be tricky though - I live in an area with a nationally famous BBQ restaurant, and often find their ribs are overcooked, tough, fatty, etc. Seems as if the kitchen gets so busy that quality goes down as a result.

Wilderness Lodge is where we generally stay but don't often eat at Whispering Canyon. A couple years ago we did because I wasn't feeling well and I thought the skillet food was horrible. I told the waitress and she had me order something else. I ordered the steak and I have to say it was delicious. Would I go out of my way to eat there, no. Would I return in a pinch, probably but only for the steak.

1) Whispering is comfort food.
. . do not go and expect Great FOOD

NOTE1: The eatery is known for its comic antics with the guests. The breakfast antics
have been toned down quite a bit due to complaints from folks who wanted to sleep late,
and those that wanted a more sedate breakfast. Amounts of antics are based upon guest
and server interaction, although lunch seems the most lively. Even with toned-down antics,
the breakfast is well worth the trip.
.
NOTE2: The food is plentiful, but just above average in quality. The endless shakes are
tasty and ample enough to give even someone with a hollow leg a brain-freeze. However,
the dining is nothing to go out of your way. Endless milk shakes are $6.99; sodas $2.99.
Both are extra, unless you are DDP. Dessert sampler is pretty good with chocolate cake,
jalapeno-lime-cheesecake, and an apple-cranberry-buckle shared family-style. Due to
LOTS of complaints, WCC added-back pulled pork for the lunch and dinner menu.

I'm not a fan. Been there 2'x and would much rather go to Trails End if we want ACE BBQ. Had breakfast skillet (meh) and lunch there. I probably wouldn't do dinner. For the price, there are way better options on property. Just MO but...

You should voice your concerns. I feel like the servers can make or break your meal at Whispering Canyon. We dined there for breakfast and the food was mediocre. Service was ok. Don't plan on going back again. If you want good ribs the ones at the Hoop De Doo were amazing!

We've cut back quite a bit on our table service dining while on trips to Disney for this exact reason. The food quality overall at most of the table service restaurants is going downhill in my opinion. Folks can speculate as to the reasons (DDP, FD, too many people to feed, etc), but the bottom line is, the food is not as good as it used to be to my family. At least the counter service places are relatively consistent.

Can't agree with this more!

That's disappointing, OP. I haven't been to WCC in years, but the same thing happened to us on our last trip at 50s Prime Time. I was so excited for my husband to experience the antics, but our server did NOTHING. It felt like we were in an Applebee's. Meanwhile, the tables around us with other servers were having a great time.

It really is frustrating to be left out of the fun at a place like that, especially when you're paying so much.

Do they do the fun 'antics' for lunch also?
Well they did last month for our lunch visit. The "antics" often vary based on the server / customer load. For our lunch the other guests joined in the "Ketchup" delivery which add to about 20 bottles to the next table, not much free space left there.

Thanks!

:tigger:I am glad I went out with my wife on the second date. :tigger:

Once is never enough. Inquiring minds want to know....was it just a bad day...confirmation is needed.....:tigger:
