Whispering Canyon...once was enough

We just stayed at Wilderness Lodge July 1st and 2nd. Had heard great things about Whispering Canyon and wanted to try it. Once was enough for us, won't be doing that ever again. We had reservations at 5pm and were seated promptly. Our server was ok but very pregnant. She seemed to just go through the basic motions. I can understand. Not the job I'd want to be doing while pregnant either. Didn't dampen our mood, we were there for the food.

My husband and I ordered the all you can eat skillet and 4 year old ordered mac and cheese. The salad was ok. Cornbread was delicious, glad husband didn't want any lol. Pulled pork was very tasty. Chicken was juicy but no flavor, sausage was greasy.

The ribs were disgusting. One bite and I put the rib down. Husband thought they were awful too. And this man will eat anything and never complain. The bbq sauce wasn't like any other bbq sauce I'd ever tasted, only made the meat worse. The only thing we could figure is the ribs had some kind of rub on them. I thought I could get the taste of the ribs out of my mouth with the beans. Yuck!!! No luck, beans were just as bad.

We aren't picky eaters, but can honestly say I ended my meal right then. Husband also stopped eating. I was really disappointed because I had been looking forward to this meal.

I did get some good ribs on Sunday at the Flame Tree :)

I guess you'll never be in this picture then? We go every year and love it. September 2nd 5:00 this year.

Sorry you had a bad experience. We have always had a good time and meal at Whispering Canyon... maybe they had an off night or something?

We enjoyed the food at Whispering Canyon, liked it a lot. The lack of entertaining antics, however, was disappointing. We had heard so much about how FUN this place was, only it wasn't.

We went for the second time last year and now my twin DDs-17 request it every time we're planning the next trip. They LOVED it!!!

It may have been an off night, it happens. We tried to get into the antics. We asked for ketchup, and were brought 2 bottles. I'm sitting there thinking, so what's this about asking for ketchup?? So they brought us 2 bottles, what's the big deal About that? About 15 minutes later, other tables asked and every bottle in the restaurant was brought to their tables. Husband asked for refill on his drink. Just a refill was brought, not the giant size brought to other tables. So maybe it was because our waitress didn't really want to be there, maybe the kitchen had an off night. We just wanted to get our check and to get out of there. For us it was not fun, nor was the food good. We just chalk it up to been there, tried that.

I was there last December as I also heard it was a wacky place to eat. Thought the antics were good. I also go the all you can eat skillet, thought everything was great and tasted good.
Only complaint I had was drink refills. I had Ice water and they brought it out 1 glass at a time. Wish they would have brought a pitcher. Although I had the same thing at Via Napoli the next day at lunch.

We didn't really care for the skillet, either. We would give WCC another try though, IF we were staying at WL...and we'd order something different!

We've always had a great time and great meal there, but we haven't been in a couple of years. I've heard that as of late, there is a placard or something that you display if you're not up to the antics. Maybe there's a possibility that your placard got displayed somehow.

One time I asked for a "big glass of ice water"... got a pitcher. Next time I asked for "a really big ice water"... I got a bucket. And I did my best to drink as much of that darned thing as I could!!!

I usually do signature restaurants for dinner, but WCC is one of the few 1TS restaurants that I do enjoy and don't hesitate to go back. I've always enjoyed the skillet, milkshakes, service, antics and of course the resort.

It's been inconsistent for us. We have ordered both the breakfast and dinner skillet where they've been excellent, but then terrible our next visit.

Until my last trip, I really ribs were an item that Disney's restaurants had down pat. But then I got the lunch skillet at WCC and the ribs were horrible. Too tough to enjoy. Chicken was all dried out too.

This is becoming my major issue with Disney Dining. One day it's fine, one day it's horrid. For what they charge I don't want to gamble that they might be having a good day!

That's interesting. We didn't see anything that resembled a placard. I'm just chalking everything up to it being an off night. We tried to engage our waitress but her effort was minimal. We just won't go there again. Too many other great places.

We've cut back quite a bit on our table service dining while on trips to Disney for this exact reason. The food quality overall at most of the table service restaurants is going downhill in my opinion. Folks can speculate as to the reasons (DDP, FD, too many people to feed, etc), but the bottom line is, the food is not as good as it used to be to my family. At least the counter service places are relatively consistent.

I much prefer breakfast and lunch there. I've tried dinner twice...just don't care for it.
