Whispering Canyon Cafe Yes or No?

We tried WCC this past Nov. and LOVED it. The food was good, the server was funny, and my kids got such a kick out of the place it's on there must do list for our next trip!

We went last September and won't return. Like you, I thought it would be fun for the kids. After waiting an hour for our table (yes we had an ADR) we were seated in the part of the place that sticks out into the lobby so we were not part of any of the fun antics and could not even see the dining room. Food was not very good. Poor service. My DS, then 15, ordered the bottomless milkshake and although we asked five times--not kidding, he never got a refill. Dinner took so long--2 hours--that no one even ordered dessert. On the plus side, no one got sick, the hotel was pretty to walk around, and the water level was right for me to be able to get on the boat (I am in an ECV and sometimes if the water level is too low or high the boats are not ECV accessible).

We ate there in February and found it to be mediocre. We'd go back if we happened to be staying at the WL and wanted a restaurant at the hotel. But we would not go out of our way to eat there again. DD loved the bottomless milkshake and had no trouble getting refills. Problem was it made her too full to eat her pasta dish (which she said was OK). I had the chicken and there isn't much I can say about it - it was roasted chicken. Mashed potato was good. DH got the ribs and didn't care for them. DD and I did like the cornbread.

Yes, We really enjoy it . We were there Dec.08 for dinner and the food was great. We will be going back this year.:cheer2:

I would definitely go to WCC. I went there last year and we are going again in June for Father's Day. The skillet is wonderful and if you decide to go there make sure you ask for ketchup! :rotfl:

We have been several times and never had a bad server...It is amazing to see so many bad reviews about the service...We do like the breakfast much better than the dinner...We think the atmosphere is fun and great for our young family...Lunch menu is good but it is very quiet there for lunch...

I would go for dinner if that is what your family wanted to do...You need to see for yourself ;)

:) We did WCC for the first time this past Dec. It was a great expreience. The steak I had was just as good as the one at CA Grill--and I am funny about steaks. Everyone else got the skillett and were well pleased. It was busy and we were an all adult table but we got there about 5 p.m. and had great service. It was really busy when we left. I say eat dinner earlier and you'll hopefully be OK. We have it as a choice for our Oct trip.:yay:

We ate there last summer for my DS's 6th Bday. I was SO disappointed!! He picked this place based on what he saw about the antics. The stick horse races, ketchup passing, etc. He is very outgoing and thought he'd have so much fun! They seated us on the little patio area that is basically OUT of the restaurant!! We had a waitress with no personality. He didn't get to participate in anything or even see it!! We could hear the laughter and carrying on but couldn't be part of it. One waitress did come out once and announce that they were doing the pony race but, by the time my boys got in there it was almost over and there were no horses left!!!

We asked to be moved when we got there and were told that if we wanted the main room we'd be waiting over an hour past our ADR. I was mad and will NEVER go back there!! The food is nothing spectacular either! My husband loves ribs and he wasn't impressed at all.

For a teenager, I don't know. I think the antics would be a little corny for a teen.

If you don't want to participate in any way, just make it abundantly clear to the server that you want to be left alone. You may have to reinforce it, as a friend and I told the host that we wanted to sit in the back part of the restaurant as we wanted a quiet breakfast, and would not be participating in any of the antics. He made a loud fuss about us being a couple of old ladies and stuck us right in the middle of the mayhem. They do assume that if you're there, you want to participate, but they're not going to hold a gun to your head. You don't have to do anything you don't want to.

That said, there's really no reason to go if you don't want to play along. WCC is all about the antics. The food is typical hotel coffee-shop fare, you can get similar food at a couple of dozen other places on property, and there are other restaurants that serve milkshakes.

If you want the kind of food WCC serves without the mayhem, you might want to try Trails' End over at FW. I don't believe they serve milkshakes, but they do have an excellent buffet with home cookin'/comfort food.

We love Whispering Canyon Cafe. All of us got the skillet dinner and it was very good. The experience is more fun if you have an outgoing server - maybe ask for one when you check in.

I have been there twice and loved it both times. I had the skillet both times and can't wait to go back there again. The show was fine, but I the main reason I keep going back is the bottomless skillet. I love the food.

I have two teenagers and they love it. When we booked our trip this year, it was the first reservation that they asked me to make. They wanted WCC, Ohana's, and LeCellier. I personally don't care that much for their dinner food, so I scheduled a breakfast because we all love the breakfast skillet. My teenage son really does love their dinner skillet. He is a big meat eater and eats and eats and eats. Both of the kids, also enjoy the antics.

Hi. We're another one and done family - NONE of us want to go back. It wasn't BAD, it just was not great.

If you're on the dining plan, then it's fine. We paid OOP and definitely didn't get our money's worth. I believe that bottomless milkshake is a ploy to get you filled up so you don't eat a lot of food. They put whipped cream in it so it's REALLY heavy. My DD and I both got one and it killed us for the meal.

I wanted to order my DS a kid's meal and my DD a kid's skillet and they wouldn't let me because DS is older than 9. So, basically we got 3 adult and one kid skillet and neither of the kids enjoyed their meal. The large skillet had 3 of everything and we left about a third of it. We did get seconds on the potatoes and brisket, and there was so much grease, that it didn't sit well on the stomach that was full of milkshake  I'm not complaining about having to buy 3 adult meals - we expected that at buffets so this wasn't really any different.

Plus, they didn't clean a single thing off the table the entire night, so we had to look at dirty salad plates, empty milkshake glasses, empty beer glass (DH) and the seconds for the skillet were in a smaller skillet that was put inside/on top of the original skillet. There was absolutely NO ROOM.

So, I say try it on the DDP, try somewhere else if OOP. Good luck!
