We are staying at the WL in December and were thinking about reservations at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. However, our kids are a little shy and have been known to cry if they are getting too much attention from strangers. I think that they would like to watch all the action in the restaurant, but I can't see them participating comfortably. Will the servers tone it down for them or would this be a complete nightmare???

for some reason this is such a touchy question...you'll get a lot of "Oh relax and have some fun, you'll be surprised..." This place is a shy child's worst nightmare and IMO a vacation at Disney is not a time to tackle your child's "shyness" demons.

you know your kids...if they are shy and do not like attention from strangers, then I would look elsewhere. WCC is a very interactive place and just b/c you tell your server that you don't want interaction does not mean they will honor that. Some servers take that as a challenge. This place can be quite relentless. Several posters have talked about their kids being reduced to tears b/c the server would not stop, even when asked to do so. Their job is to stir people up. That is the atmosphere that is required from them and they take it quite seriously.

Mostly this a place to go if you LOVE to be part of the action...some kids really enjoy racing around the restaurant on stick pony's and having tons of ketchup brought to the table or being tied to their chair. Others would be scarred for life. If your munchkins have been known to cry at too much attention, save them years of therapy later and try a character meal to start with!

good luck, have fun... :thumbsup2

Thank you! I think that we will skip WCC this time! I would rather not traumatize them on their first Disney trip!!!

I totally agree, please don't risk it. I saw this happen to many a child and it's just not worth the risk.

This child did not want to participate and they got the entire restaurant's attention, asked them to wave their cloth napkins, and shout, You ain't so special". He ran out in tears.

The parents had told the hostess and server which is how it all got started.

on which level would anyone find something like that to be entertaining or even amusing?! :rolleyes2 I'm wondering when a server is going to harrass the wrong family and get a nice "disney" punch between the eyes?! Obviously people shouldn't go to places like WCC if they don't like audience participation places...but there is a line. Has anybody ever complained about this to someone beyond the manager?! It just seems to go way past the point of being fun. :confused3 I don't get it at all.
