Whis is best in July/August?

We're thinking about doing a cruise in 2006 or 2007. Becaue my son plays baseball and school starts the middle of August we're pretty much limited to late July or early August. I'd like to do one of the 7 day cruises but I'm not sure which. Is either one better that time of year than the other?

I would check when Hurricane Season starts, if it's August then go with July to play it safe, especially after last year's events!!

Hurricane season officially starts on June 1, so you will be sailing during hurricane season regardless. Usually the Gulf of Mexico is more active early in the season than the Atlantic, so you run more risk (though not much) by sailing a Western Itinerary during that time period. There are usually less hurricanes eariler, so if you're worried about that, I'd sail as early as you can during that time period.

Hurricane season starts June 1st so either date would be fine although some would say the further you get into hurricane season the better the chance of sailing during one.

The 2006 rates were released in late September of 2005 so I imagine the 2007 rates won't be released for almost 10 months. That being said if you can go on August 19, 2006 you will get a couple of benefits.

1. The cruise stops at Castaway Cay twice, once on Sunday and then on Friday.

2. The price break for off-peak starts with the 08/19/06 Western Caribbean cruise. I booked a Category 6 and the cost for a family of 4 was $1,000 less than the prior week's 08/12/06 Eastern Caribbean cruise.

Thank you everyone and thanks for the tip! I think I do favor the Eastern because I'm more interested in just cruising than the ports but two days at Castaway Cay would be a big hit with my kids!
