How do you keep your food from being stolen?

We will be tenting it for two weeks. I was planning on placing our dry food in a tote and we will also be bringing a large cooler. Neither the tote or the cooler has latches on them. I was hoping to keep the tote and cooler in our screened-in-shelter like we do on our local trips but I'm afraid that will not be enough to keep the fort critters out. After reading some other threads, it sounds like the squirrel mafia is not afraid to chew through tents to get what they want. What do you recommend?

Hmm, are you going to have your car? Maybe there? Some campgrounds have poles to hang stuff from, but that wouldn't help with squirrels. Have also been to campground(s) with food lockers on each site but I think that was Yellowstone where bears are plentiful, and I don't recall FW having anything like that.

Large bungee cord around cooler. Good luck, they are crafty creatures.

We tent camp every year at the Fort. We use a tote for the dry food and a cooler for cold. Never had a problem with squirrels. We do keep items on the tote, alarm clock and other things. Never had an animals chew through our tent. Cooler seals tight so no need for bungee cord or anything.

Our state campgrounds have poles on campsites, they are lantern hangers. Although first time campers think they are for their garbage. The bears can stand up and get to the garbage while hanging, once the bear visits, they usually figure out it is a bad idea to hang the garbage on their campsite overnight.
