While backing up someone walked behind my car, and they got hit.

I have had a few close calls with people who haven't been paying attention. Luckily I paid enough attention for both of us and just in the nick of time stopped my vehicle. While blocking their way I just sat there for several seconds and reamed them out with facial expressions, and hand gestures telling them what complete IDIOTS they are and how dangerous they are as well. Ugh - my blood pressure was so up there. So infuriating!

It will all work out, op! I promise. Just let it go and give it to a higher power - it happens to many many people.

This is an old thread. It's from 2007.

How are these threads coming back to life?

As pointed out a few posts back, there a links to random threads at the bottom of some pages. These have been including old threads as well as recent ones.

Those must be blocked with Ad Block. I never see any of those.

I run AdBlock but I have seen them. I can't recall where, but maybe it was on my phone instead.
Now I did look at Internet Explorer which does not have Ad Block and I do see them there. Huge avatars! I always use Chrome.

The problem with old threads is outdated information. Last week there was one from over 10 years ago about the dinning plan that was really confusing people. Just because you read it doesn't mean you have to post it.

I bet that was interesting.

I think people aren't looking at the dates of those threads before they post on them. I know the one I clicked on - about Texas arresting parents who pull their kids out of school for vacations - was horribly old, and I just closed it again. I wonder if there is some way to control what pops up?

Isn't your insurance company taking care of all this?

My dad was recently sued for hitting a woman and the insurance company hired the lawyer who represented him in court and did all the research and legwork.

I have nothing to add to this old thread other than I LOVE this screen name. MushyMushy! It made me smile.

I wondered if the board software has some setting that can automatically lock a thread that doesn't have any new posts in 3 months (or 6, or 12, or whatever). In the rare case someone wants to update an old thread, they can start a new one with a link to the old.

A quick google search looks like the software supports it. Whether DIS has the option is a different story... https://xenforo.com/community/resources/auto-lock.3433/

So recently I was on the other end of the suing situation. I was rear ended at high speed, 100% fault to the other driver and we ended up having to sue because his insurance company was not acting in good faith. All I wanted was my expenses covered and they started trying to cut corners- refusing to cover the actual cost of the rental car, trying to weasel out of their obligation on the car seat... and I realized with the long road ahead of me for rehab and PT that I *had* to sue to have any hope of getting my expense covered.

2 years of tussling netted me all my expenses. After 1.5 years of constant pain the amount we ended up with after the doctors and lawyers took their cuts... well, it wasn't a huge windfall. Won't even pay for a Disney vacation. ;)

We're fine with that. We weren't looking for a payday. I just wanted to maybe soothe some of the bad feelings by letting you know the injured party may not be being greedy or punitive. I was *livid* at the guy who rammed me and my kids and never even checked on us, but I would still not have sued if the insurance company had been honorable. The victim may just be making sure the real expenses incurred are covered.

omg i just had to keep reading this thread ( even though i saw it was an older one) just hoping she came back and posted what happened to her.

Oh boy, the OP could have been my dil, fast forward to this year, which is why I opened the thread.
It's a nightmare, she didn't hit the women, just put the car in gear and did a mirror check seeing the older woman didn't move. But her son hearing the shift sound pushed his Mom in her walker and she fell to the ground sustaining a cut to the forehead and bruised knees. The son is a prosecuted drug dealer. His mother is very elderly and it is said he takes her to the doctors and get her Vicodin for his use.

Even though she didn't hit the woman, she is at fault for the fall injuries. What is notable, at the time PD came son denied injuries, denied injuries to the doctor (it was in a med center parking lot) but went to an attorney and filed a claim against us, for himself and his mother. I had to send attorney a copy of the accident report with no statement ever being hurt.

My part; it was my car she borrowed. I just do not need the stress, I was wondering how this thread went OP wise. I imagine they get the $$$ settlement.

As far as those older threads at the bottom of the page.....I clicked on one about 2 weeks ago and I didn't realize, until I was deep into the thread, that it was from a few years back.
The woman was saying that she thought her husband may be cheating on her. I think, if I remember correctly, he had said he didn't want to be married anymore and she was saying that she really loved him and wanted to try and make the marriage work.
After I read it and realized it was years old, I thought about this woman for a few days and wondered what ever happened. It looked as if she stopped posting anything right around the time of that thread.

  • Personally, love my dashcam. It's a great independent witness, especially in court. Had to many near-misses with distracted pedestrians.
  • My new car has a backup camera. I love Thrifty car rentals for minivans as they have backup cameras in my area.
  • Love Nissan's around view cameras in their better newer vehicles.
  • do people remember fresnel lenses before we had backup cameras?

OOOOO A zombie thread. 7 out of 10 zombies when asked who was at fault, the pedestrian or the driver said they'd have to conduct a trial by zombie jury. Loser gets eaten. Winner gets eaten.
The other three said they like pedestrians far better than those driving a car because they were easier to catch.
