My mom will be the big 5-0 in June and we are trying to figure out what we should do. We have narrowed it down to the following and I would love input on which you will prefer. All of these will be surprise (hopefully).

1) Big party at a catering hall (we did that for her 40th) with about 100 people

2) Intimate dinner with close friends and family (about 20 people) at Morton's Steakhouse

3) Surprise weekend getaway with immediate family only to either Vegas or Bahamas (we aren't going to tell her until we get to the airport!!)

So, if your family was planning something for you, which would you like best???

Thanks in advance!!!

It was a toss up between the dinner and the Bahamas for me, but I don't like full surprise trips (as in not knowing I'm going anywhere until we're leaving) so I'd prefer the dinner.

Now to say "Mom, we're taking you on a trip for your 50th birthday, but the location is a surprise" would push me over to the Bahamas category.

I don't know what your Mom would prefer, but I would definitely pick the Bahamas.

Actually, I didn't vote because I want a trip to WDW for my 50th birthday. (Big surprise there, eh?) Otherwise, I'd take the trip to the Bahamas.

Actually none of the above. I'd like to have a special trip planned to celebrate. I'm not into big parties, dining out at a fancy place or surprise trips.

However if DH and I were to plan a very special trip (he hits a milestone birthday two days before me) that would be different.

I voted Bahamas..closest thing to what we are doing for my mom's 50th next year....traveling to some place tropical. Hers isn't a surprise though due to logistics.

Believe me... I thought of that!!! But, we have a BIG family trip planned to Disney in 2007!!!

I'm sure we will have to tell her that we are taking a trip but won't tell her the location until we get to the airport.

I just had my 50th last week and I got non of the above and must say I am hurt and disappointed. But, I don't want to sound selfish so I haven't said anything to my family. I really thought DH would have sent me flowers at work or something. I would have loved a weekend get away.

DW and I both turned 50 this year. We are not sad that we've gotten older, but we didn't want a "deal" either. I'd vote for the smallest choice if it were up to me. The dinner. Now an anniversary is a big deal because we've accomplished something together! Our next "big" anniversary will be the 30th in a few years and I need to start nudging the kids now ("you know your mother would love it if you....." ;))

How appropriate...I just celebrated my 50th this Wednesday!! I would have loved it if my family would surprised me with something like this, they just kept asking me, "What do you want to do for your birthday?" How spontaneous!! Oh well, since I"ve been having some knee problems, my "birthday trip" was to the doctor yesterday for an MRI...oh the joys of getting older!!
Oh well...as much as I don't want them to find something wrong, I hope they can find something and fix it.
My sister recently starting working at EPCOT and keeps wanting to know when I'm coming to visit. I've explained that since I can't walk much, a trip right now is not possible.
Hope your mom has a great birthday and you sound like great kids!!

My sister arranged for a surprise dinner and play for me and some friends for my 50th, it was the best gift I ever had.

If I was in charge of planning my 60th, I would opt for a 3 night cruise with my family if possible, or just DH and myself, the Bahamas in June would be great!
