Which would you pick? Feb or Apr

Here's a dilemma. Which would you pick:

Arriving on the last day of value season and staying through Presidents week in Feb or Apr 18 - 25?

My thoughts:

With the Feb vacation, as I said we could check in on the last day of value season and get the value season price for the stay of vacation. However, we have 7 yr old twins that love to swim also. It might be too cold though in Feb. With my kids, they need to have a rest midday to rev themselves up for the night. Maybe we could even stay at a nicer resort if we caught the tail-end of value season.

With April vacation, since Easter is Apr 11 next year, our school sys here is Massachusetts is taking off Apr 18 - 25. Obviously warmer weather is a big factor. I'm thinking perhaps lighter crowds since it will not be around Easter - unless all of New England decides to go - LOL. A big drawback is we would be at the tailend of peak season most likely.


Which time would you think the park hours would be longer?

Personally, I would choose February. I prefer visiting WDW when the temperatures are colder. I think it tires me out a lot less when the temperatures are milder. It can get quite a bit cold in February though, I believe. Disney's pools are all heated to 80 degrees year-round, so you would most likely only be cold when you weren't in the water. I've been to WDW in December several times when it's been pretty chilly, and there were still kids swimming in the pools early in the mornings. I think kids have different internal thermometers than we adults do. Plus, I think you could save quite a bit of money by beginning your stay during value season. Though the park hours will likely be a good bit shorter during February, I think the crowds would be much lighter. It's my understanding that crowds at WDW tend to be pretty high in April since so many schools nationwide have spring break in April.

My biggest concern with a winter vacation is not be able to get to our destination because of bad weather. After the winter we just had in the NE I'd be concerned about taking that risk. Also, this year Disney was offering codes w/i 10 days of Easter. You could book April and hope for codes.

Hi we go every Feb. We also live in the NE. Never had a problem yet. Can never tell with the weather. Sometimes it's warm enough to swim sometimes not. I would choose Feb.

I'm probably not much help except to say that I'm going around and around in my head with a similar question. I'd prefer to go in the colder months because I prefer being outside in the cooler weather and the crowds are less but I know my older son will be disappointed if we can't swim. Swimming to him is probably as important as going to the parks! I can't imagine staying in a deluxe with an awesome pool and not feeling like braving the cold weather to get into it! LOL! I've been to WDW in early January when the weather has been awesome - no problem swimming - and also when it is too cold/rainy to swim (for my taste). As you children are old enough perhaps to understand, maybe you want to ask them what they prefer: nicer hotel and maybe less swim time or less of a hotel and better weather. If you can swing a moderate in April I'd pick that (I've never been to the AS resorts but they totally do not appeal to me). I think the parks are likely to be open later in April than Feb though the months could have the same hours if the crowds are light. We went in early May once and it was a great time!

I've seen on other threads that early February has some kind of cheerleader camps at the All Star resorts. Whether or not that is a plus or a minus is up to you.

Now here's a question ... When y'all say "colder" or "worse weather", what does that mean in Central Florida terms? Being a gal who's originally from the Northeast and has recently transplanted to the Windy City, "cold" means sub-zero temperatures ... If we're talking 65 degrees in Florida-speak, I can handle that JUST FINE!

We went this past Feb. and the crowds were wonderful but the temps were a little low for swimming. That being said though, we went the 1st week of Feb. and you said you are looking at Presidents week -- which to my understanding, gets just as crowded as Easter/spring break. If you would prefer to have the warmer weather for swimming I'd go for April rather than Feb. if you would be going Presidents week. Just My opinion though

We've spent the last two President's weeks at WDW. We always check in before value season ends. Crowds are very manageable. In 2002 temps were in the high 60's the first few days then low to mid 70's. My boys always swim since the pools are heated. In 2003 we had temps in the 70's the first few days then we had low to mid 80's . Both years we have gone to Typhoon Lagoon. As long as you have a day in the low 70's you can do it. My vote would be February. I have never visited in April but know many who have and it sounds like it's alot more crowded in April.

Erick, that sounds mighty fine to me! ;-)

I'm the girl who goes outside on a high-60s day and says "This weather is PERFECT! Why couldn't it be like this all year long???" Not to mention the fact that I'm so fair-skinned I practically sunburn under a fluorescent light. Yikes!
