Which would be better for a break from the park crowds: Sci Fi or 50s Prime Time?

I am stuck deciding between these two. We have never been to either and want to try one or the other. We will be there during Christmas week and I have read a few suggestions that Sci Fi is nice and quiet because everyone is watching the video clips, but Passporter says it's very noisy . . . I am expecting the food to be hit or miss at both, so I am pretty much making my decision based on which one will be the most likely to be a relaxing break from the crazy crowds. ANy suggestions?

I haven't tried 50s so I can't compare the two. I love Sci-Fi:thumbsup2 I thought it was very relaxing. We had lunch there on the third day of our trip and to be honest I needed a break from talking to my family. Yes I know how bad that sounds:rolleyes1 But it was so nice to eat lunch and just sit.

The onion rings and shakes are great by the way.

we did not enjoy our experience at either... both seemed hectic and both had poor service... however, for a nice relaxing peaceful meal, give mama melrose's a try... it was wonderful, great food, great service, nice atmosphere, etc...

We loved Sci-Fi. It is a real break from the park because you're immersed in the atmosphere (cool, dark, you really feel like you're at a cool old drive-in).

We've been to both, but lunch at the Sci Fi has become a tradition. We never make a trip without eating there at least once -- but always for lunch and always a burger. Their burgers and rings are excellent.

We've been to both. Sci Fi many times and 50's prime time once. My husband didn't like the atmosphere at the 50's like eat all your food or no dessert. It did occur a few times duing the meal and introducing to your 'relatives'. I guess if you like that kind of thing it could be cute. Not my idea of getting away from the crowds. On the other hand we have eaten at the Sci Fi at least 6 times and are eating there next week when we visit. It's more of a fun place for us and more relaxing. Just my thoughts. Whichever you choose have a great time. Christmas is such a wonderful time at Disney!!

the sci-fi

it's cool and dark inside - you get to zone out staring ahead at the large outdoor screen showing a loop of B trailers - not much talking going on inside either (since you're all sitting facing forward, for the most part) - we love to go in here to (literally) chill out before facing the sun, heat and crowds!

have been to both, and like both a lot, for different reasons. It depends greatly on what kind of food and what kind of fun you are in the mood for. That said, I would ahve to say that, of the two, Sci-Fi is more relazing. You can zone out in your car and watch old drive in space movies. At 50's they will most likely be interacting with you. This is fun, if you like that kinda thing, but not relaxing. However, aside from the onion rings, I don't think Sci-Fi's food is the best. Not horrible, just nothing great. Whereas 50s does have a few really good things on the menu...
Tough call - good luck!

We have been to both, and I would definitely say Sci-Fi is more what you are looking for. My first thought was I had entered a different world - not Disney! We stuck to burgers and thought they were fine.

We'be done both and loved them both. The food was great, so no complaints there. I think I would say the Sci-Fi was probably more relaxing though.

I am another that did not like either much the Sci Fi was too uncomfortable and noisy. Prime time was as stated not my cup of tea with the "MOM" telling me what to do.
I DO like Hollywood and Vine which is Buffet and relaxed, and good food.

50's Primetime Cafe is a must for me on every trip (last trip I dined here twice)!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 Great food & service!!!

Have tried Sci-Fi 3 times and won't go back. :sad2: Burgers were way too greasy for my taste and the fries were undercooked.

We've been to and loved both, but Sci Fi would get my vote for a break from the crowds. It's nice and dark and relaxing for me, but we don't really go during peak periods. I love the feel of the drive-in and the glowcube drinks in the dark. Very relaxing for me!

I was not all that impressed with the food at Sci Fi last year...so this time we are going to 50's. If that tells ya anything.. ;)
