Which week in August?

We are planning an end of summer trip and have two sets of dates in mind. We have been to Disneyland many times, so we don't need to do everything, but we don't want to be stuck in unmovable crowds like we were last October. My kids are older, so they prefer thrill rides to Fantasyland, but we still like to spend time on family favorites such as the Storybook Cruise and Alice in Wonderland. We will have park hoppers.

Week of August 14th (probably in DLR the 15-17): This is good because the APs are still blocked for So Cal. However, more schools are still out on summer break. Hotel prices are a little more expensive this week which leads me to think there will be more people from out of town.

Week of August 21st (probably in DLR the 22nd - 24th): This is good because while the APs are no longer blocked, LA and Orange county school districts are back in session. Hotels are less expensive but I know how much busier it can be with the open APs.

Thanks!

MSEP is currently slated to end its run on August 20th, so if you wanted to see that, then you'll need to go with your first set of dates.

the farther into August, the better, unless folks cancel july because of weather....and don't let AP status bother you, these are folks who visit for very specific outings, usually in the evenings, they will not be there in the morning, and they won't be plugging up the sidewalks, thru ways and food carts. Your October experience happened because you were caught off guard by all the events, decor and the better weather for local folks to visit.

Hard to say. I am a local and know that the weather could be dramatically different around that time. Could be gloomy and drizzly or close to 100. And the weather will impact crowds.

Thanks for your replies! We haven't decided yet, but are leaning towards the later week due to hotel prices and the hopes that most kids will already be in school for the day!

Isn't rain unlikely that time of year?

Rain highly unlikely, but overcast and gloomy mornings which sometimes surprise people. I've seen people in shorts, tank tops and flip flops wish they had a jacket in the morning. Then the same week you see people burning up wearing long sleeves in 95 degree weather. The point I was getting at is local APs may pick and choose which days they go due to weather since they are closer and can do spur of the moment trips.

We are going that second week you are talking about and we are going because schools down there are back in session. :)
