Hiya all,

We have always travelled to DLRP by ferry and car and am fed up of the long drag back home from Dover.... so am thinking of other ways to go....

What does everyone recommend travel wise? Plane? (we have Birmingham and Bristol easy distance away) Train? Coach? We will be staying on-site next time... Probably May half term.. 2 adults, 2 kids under 9.

Any travel advice welcome

Tessa

I'm quite fond of the drive myself. Stopped at Arras on the way down last time which was lovely!

How about a compromise, and using eurotunnel instead of the ferry? Much quicker, and less hastle.

I don't think you'd appreciate a coach trip, having driven yourself, you have an idea of how long it takes by road, I think you'll find the coach journey considerably longer - from Newport, South Wales to DLRP 13 hours there and 12 hours back, it does always seem to be quicker back, but it's a long trip.
If you can get to Ashford or London then you can't beat the Eurostar for convenience and an easy trip, the only downside is the travelling to from the station tin the UK and additional costs of hotel and car parking.
The easiest/ quickest way for us is to fly, although we have only flown once before and a transport dispute meant waiting at CDG for many hours for the shuttle bus, but we're giving it another go in March, flying from Cardiff this time we went from Bristol the first time, if everything runs to schedule we should be able to leave our house at 2.00pm and arrive at Hotel Cheyenne around 7.00pm. I'm sure I'm tempting fate saying that LOL:rolleyes1

we have always driven there using Eurotunnel apart from last weekend when we flew. Because of where we live itis probably more covenient to fly but I still prefer driving there - it seems so much easier somehow

I prefer to drive too, we use the tunnel as I like to have my car so I can bring more things back with me!! lol

However as you are asking for alternatives could you fly from Birmingham to CDG airport, then catch the shuttle to DLRP? Or how about getting the train from Birmingham to Kings Cross/St Pancras and then catching the Euro star direct to DLRP.

I love taking Eurostar - mainly because I'm only about 2 hours from St Pancras and have relatives kind enough to stay with them the night before.

For a short weekend break though, I'd probably fly - again, mainly because of the convenience of the fact that my local airport is about 20 minutes down the road.

Eurostar is easier than flying because you don't have to be checked in sat at St Pancras for hours and neither does it seem such a hassle getting through security.

We've also driven though - we took the ferry once, but I don't think we'd do that again. We take the Eurotunnel train when we do drive, which is also pretty easy, although I prefer Eurostar or flying (though driving does have it's advantages because you can take a lot more stuff if you drive).

The cheapest and quickest way for me to get to DLRP from Nottingham (for 2 of us) is flying, even adding on the check-in times, and getting from CDG to the gates of DLRP :goodvibes .

I leave my house at 4.30am, and I'm at DLRP by 11am latest. So only 5 and a half hours door to Magic :goodvibes

Obviously if there were more of us in my party, it would be cheaper to drive. A lot longer journey - but cheaper.
