We always drive, but never with a camper, so I'm not sure which way would be best since we've never been the later of the two ways. When I searched directions on mapquest it gave me 2 options.
95 to I4, or 95 to 301 to 75. It did note that the second way has toll roads, and i don't know if we want to fight that, but for anyone who has gone these ways, which is better with a camper.

If your already south of DC I would take 95 to 4 . We used to take 95 from MA. but New York down thru DC was unbearable, and expensive with all the tolls. Now we go west to 84 to 81 to 77 to 26 to 95 in SC to 4. We'll be heading that way on wed april 27 . ENJOY!!

Thanks! We are in VA so yes we are past DC. I've heard of people talking about a way you can go in to avoid I4, but I wasn't sure if this was it or not. I just put the directions from GA b/c that's where it changes.

We pulled in with a 30 foot motor home two nights ago and arrived just after midnight very frustrated. First off, the gps does not like the address, it would not allow it to be entered. This is because the address is on Disney's private property and is not reported to the mapping systems. When we called for directions, we were told to head south on I95 and take I4 east. This makes no sense as that would send you into the atlantic ocean. Assuming of course that I4 east existed from I95. We ended up coming in on I4 and following the signs, which left much to be desired I might add. Once we arrived at the check in center we were told to park in the parking lot and go in to check in. The parking lot was full of cars and we had a difficult time finding a space to park. We ended up parking on the side of a road next to the parking lot. Then we were handed a cartoon map (obviously not to scale) and left to our own devices to locate our camp site in the dark. Learning how to get from one park to another is a whole different post and I wont go into that here. But one thing I will say is that I had called the camp grounds a week prior to our arrival to find out where our camps site would be so I could determine weather or not we needed to reserve a golf cart or not. And I was told that we would not know our camp site location until after we arrived, and a golf cart requires 2 days advanced reservation notice. The employees at the camp site said that they receive a lot of complaints about the directions and gps issues, but have no plans to do anything to solve the problem.

We ahve gone both ways but not all the way to 75 we took (I thinkRt27) because we were styaing @ Thousand Triails and it is right on that route. I really think 95 to Rt4 is the best way for you but traffic can be heavy at times, once you get near Disney watch the signs they will direct you to the Fort it's best to have someone else watch for signs so you can watch your driving as a lot of peopls are lost also.

I've been using I-4 for almost 30 years to get to WDW at least once every two years or more and never had an issue. However I don't hit Orlando during rush hours, but around noon.

Jeepfreak, how mountainous is it on 81 and 77 through that part of Virginia and the Carolinas? Why not take 64 in Virginia to Richmond and down 95? We went down 95 through the Baltimore/DC area and would love to miss that next time.

Thanks,
Ted

81 is horribly mountainous from blacksburg area until you get to roanoke. It also has HORENDOUS traffic. Especially tractor traliers are really bad on that section of road.
