Which water park for novice swimmers?

My kids are 8 and 5 and have only had "basic" swimming lessons. I plan on signing them up for another session of lessons this summer before our trip in November, but they are both a bit timid of the water.

So my question is, since we have PHP passes, which water park would be better for my kids? I would assume TL, but would like some other opinions from those who have been to both places.

Thanks!

I don't know if River Country is still open in FW, it's laid back there, you can relax and have a good time. TL & BB is a bit on the wild side, but all of them are good for novice swimmers. There is alot to do at each park.

Good Day

I would think that TL would be the best place. They have a children's area, a lazy river to float in, and the big wave pool is zero depth entry for little ones to walk into. Just be sure and keep a close eye at the wave pool because the waves can catch you off guard, and knock you over. There is covered cabanas to provide some relief from the sun. You have to get there early to get these. Lifejackets can also be rented if you think your children need them. BB is alot of fun, but does not have as much shade to protect the kids. I believe that River Country is still closed.

River Country is OUT, since it is now closed [indefinitely] with, seemingly, no plans for re-opening. We absolutely LOVED BB!! There is a fantastic lazy river, which is suitable for even the most timid of swimmers. The zero-entry wave pool is a sure winner for them also, as well as the "kid-sized" slides in the childrens' area...

BB for sure. The wave pool at TL when on the big wave cycle is no place for timid swimmers. People think that because BB has Summit Plummet and the other big slides it is not for little ones but there is plenty for young kids to do there. There is a lot at TL also but I think the kids get a bigger kick out of the theme at BB.

Even if RC was still open I would not recommend it to weak swimmers. The slides dump you into deep water with pretty strong currents. There is a big beach area there that is great for little ones but if they want to ride the slides they better be good swimmers.

Thank you all for your replies!

It seems like its a toss up for this so I'm not sure which one we'll do. Would it be possible to check them both out and then let my kids decide or is it too hard to see anything without actually going in? I remember driving by BB on our last trip and my kids thought it looked really cool but they could only see the tall slides.

As a long time River guide and avid swimmer I would not recommend TL over BB... BB is much more child friendly! One of the big highlites of TL is the wave pool and that is no place for children. BB has a larger kids area and has a smaller wave pool. The truth is Both are fun and both have kid appeal the thing you have to do is watch them and use your judgment!

No unfortunately you really can't see anything much at all without going in the parks. You can look at park maps and get a general idea of the layout but that is not much help. Its a shame there is no way to get an actual look without paying. They even make elderly people in wheelchairs who obviously are not going to swim pay to go in.
