Which value to stay at in this Covid world?

I'm hoping to go to Disney in August, if my state lessens their travel restrictions by then. I typically stay value, and I will likely be solo. My usual preference is Movies, and that's where my reservation currently is. However, in skimming threads, I'm seeing a lot of mention of parks opening ahead of schedule, different transportation start times, etc. Historically I have not rented a car. I'm considering it which would make some of this a moot point, but right now, I just want to figure out where is the best place to stay in the current climate. I've been to Disney countless times, but I'm a little lost with planning in Covid times. I also know a lot could change between now and August.

So...given current circumstances (and I know Movies isn't open yet), which value is best to stay at?

I was going to suggest you stay at Pop & use the Skyliner, until I noticed that you're going in August. Skyliner isn't air conditioned. We've been twice since the shutdown and rented a car both times. If you can afford to do that, I recommend it. It's safer to drive than to take shared transportation, you won't have to wait around for any buses, and you don't have to wear a mask in your car (which you'll especially appreciate in hot August).

It’s hard to say what the parks will look like in august. I’ve stayed at Pop since reopening and while the skyliner is nice, the summer storms make the skyliner go down quite a bit. If I were you I’d plan on staying at Movies since that’s your preference and look at how things go transportation-wise when Movies opens.

Have you found any issues with parking lots not opening early enough to get into the parks when they open? I distinctly remember a period in the early 2000s where the hotel transportation guests had a significant advantage over those driving in.

With the cost of renting a car and the cost of parking at the resort, have you looked into Uber/Lyft? Obviously, if you plan to make multiple trips back to your resort and then back to the park, it might be cost effective to rent + parking fee...

If you had the budget to pay for renting a car and also paying for parking at the hotel maybe you could find a good deal at the swan or dolphin. It makes rope dropping Epcot and hs incredibly easy as you can walk to both and you wouldn’t necessarily need a car at that point. They still offer bus transportation to the other parks. We find good deals at the swan/dolphin all the time and can also use credit card points to stay there as well.

I’ve gone on two solo trips this year in September and November. Both times I stayed at POP. September had a 90 degree day and the skyliner was perfectly cool.

it’s a delightful breezy ride, especially nice since they are currently restricting occupants to one group at a time. No longer need to worry re getting to MGM for RoTR crack of dawn either, can easily use it if you’re not worried about being there for rope drop

Personally, I really like AoA little mermaid rooms. Don’t feel the extra walking distance a huge issue, what’s a few more steps at WDW?

Next favorite is Music, love the pool theming & feel the food court is great.

Do like the ducks section at Movies, easy to walk to music’s bus stop & their pool.

We do rent a car but will rely on bus or uber if adult beverages are involved. Right now, after seeing the long lines in Sept/October, will forgo for now.

Good luck planning your trip
