Which Value Resort

My family is planning a trip in January. My spouse is confined to a wheelchair. We plan on staying at one the value resort. I just wanted some opinions on which one to stay at with the Disney transportation in mind. I know Pop Century is further out but has its own bus. I know the 3 other resort are together and closer to the action but sometimes share buses. I really dont know which one to book. Please help

I would suggest POP because it does have it's own bus. Not to mention it has a frozen Coke machine in the food court.

It really doesn't take any longer to get to the parks and you always know if you don't see a wheelchair in the bus line then you aren't going to have a bus pull up that already has 2 chairs on it.

Now on a personal note I hate the phrase confined to a wheelchair. My girls are T12-L-1 and L-1 L2 paras that can't stand or walk but are full time wheelchair users. Confined to a wheelchair to me makes it sound like the chair owns them when the chair is what gives them their freedom to do all they can and not confine them. Sorry if you don't agree just my opinion.

Thank you for you help on making my decision about where to stay.

On the personel note. My spouse has a c-5 injury for now over 24 years. We have long since got over all the politcal correct crap that goes along with being disabled.

I second the Pop Century suggestion. I stayed there in May and had a wonderful time.

As for the confined bit I usually cringe inside when I hear people use that term. It's not the whole PC thing that bothers me, it's that it isn't true. I use a wheelchair but I'm not confined to a wheelchair. As a paraplegic I can get in and out of my chair very easily and I do so many times throughout the day. So in my instance I'd be lying if I used the confined to a wheelchair term. Personally I use the term wheelchair user since that is more accurate.

I too would recommend POP. I am a full time wheelchair user and had a wonderful time in August. I only had one problem with a bus that had a broken lift but I never had to wait too long. The rest of my family enjoyed the resort as well. Have a great time.

I think the food court area at POP is also much easier to get around in for someone in a chair than the food area at All Stars.

I would agree that a resort with only one stop does have an advantage since you know all the wheelchair spots are empty. All you have to deal with is whether or not the equipment works.

We have stayed in a room by one of the last bus stops in a resort with multiple bus stops. In occasional cases, all the wheelchair spots were filled by the time the bus got to our stop, so it can happen.

My DD also uses a wheelchair, but only for long hauls, such as the parks. We have had great luck with Pop (seems like most of us have ). I agree with the poster about the food court, it seems to be easier to navigate than at some of the other value resorts. Good luck!

I use a manual wheelchair full time. DFi and I are planning on staying at POP in August 2008. Would we be able to request a room close to the bus stop?

you would, but keep in mind that it is just a request.

Just so the OP (and others reading this thread) knows - Pop is actually NOT "further out" at all. It's extremely close to MGM (maybe five minutes by bus), almost as close to Epcot, and pretty central between MK and AK.

I couldn't get a ressie at POP and ended up with AS Music. I was worried as it had been the second stop of the AS. Well, that isn't the case. I found that for the most part, AS Music was either on it's on, or the first stop. And they had Sports paired with Movies. So I would make All Star Music and option.

I just added a thread comparing Pop to ASMusic from an accessibility perspective. We found the food court to be MUCH more w/c friendly than at Pop. I also liked not having to go through the gift shop to get to the food court. Really either resort has it's pros and cons and either choice will be a good one.---Kathy
