My DH needs to work while we are at WDW. We are planning to stay at a value resort, haven't decided which yet. Leaning towards AoA but read on one of the threads that cell service is iffy there. My DH does all his work on internet and cell phone (can't exist without it). Can anyone who has had experience of these resorts let me know if they have been able to have good internet service and cell reception? Recommendations?:)

I do not think there is an answer. Cell & wi-fi signals in the World are HIGHLY variable, even within the same resort - same floor - etc. Cell service should be overall better - we have AT&T and it's worked fine everywhere, and I've seen other reports of decent Verizon service.

We had terrible wireless at our end of the hall at Beach Club, but it worked great at the other end of the wall. So, see what I mean? And if you read reports here, it's the same all over - it's entirely the luck of the draw on where your room is.

If your DH HAS to work, you should get an AirCard for the trip.

I agree with vicki c; if internet connection is essential, bring your own. We stayed at Pop Century last month for 5 nights. DD and I have I-phones and I also have an I-pad that I used for some work. We have Verizon service and it was fine. I also have a mi-fi with Verizon, but I never even unpacked it for this trip. When we were there in April, I did use my mi-fi because I had some work that had to get done. I found that the service was a little better in the Classic Hall common area in the really early morning (think 0 dark 30) than in the rooms. Also had good service by the Hippy Dippy pool -- especially early in the morning.

I sort of got that impression by reading through the boards, but it's great to have confirmation. I don't know what an Aircard is (I'm terribly backward with technology) but I'm sure my DH will. Also, don't know what mi-fi is (yes, I am a dinosaur!), but DH uses iphone for office (It belongs to the office, so not sure if you can put mi-fi on it?) my kids or DH will know I hope.Sounds like that is probably the thing to do. I feel bad enough that DH has to work while we vacation, but at least if I can smooth getting calls, sending emails etc., he may have an easier time of it. Thanks for all your help.:worship:

And I was in the 1980s section and my Verizon service didn't work in my room at POP. Neither did Sprint. Outside, both were fine.

OP--It's quite variable. POP is close to AoA, but for all I know, every carrier is weak at AoA. Overall, since AT&T uses the entire cellular band in Orlando, they are more likely to have service indoors, but again, it's all dependent on which carrier locates on the nearest cell phone tower or building. I've had all of the big 3 carriers at different times at WDW, all have had weak spots. We really need to know what carrier you are using...but again, it really is variable.

You're not a dinosaur -- just lucky!

If you do a google search, you'll find lots of mi-fi's and aircards. I think the thing to tell your DH is that the complimentary internet service at the resorts and parks is spotty, so if he absolutely must have internet connection for an important work project, the only way to be safe is to bring your own. If he's just checking e-mail on an I-phone, I think you'd be fine.
