Hey,

i thought this would be an interesting thread.
I'v seen some people on here who did not get all the ADRs they wanted and booked something rather than nothing. I'm thinking some of these places people didn't really want to go to might be a blessing in disguise! It might let you try out somewhere that you might not have first thought of.

My question to you is, which TS did you go to that you didn't initially want to go to, or went to because that was the only place with tables left, and you ended up loving it.

This might be quite interesting!

As of now, I would say Biergarten (although we are trying two new places this year and I'm a little unsure about Boma...I'm not very adventurous). Although I like some German food, when I looked at the menu, I didn't see a whole lot I thought I would like. It has turned out to be one of my favorite places to dine. (Although not a Disney restaurant, my DH insisted I go to Emeril's with him while in Vegas...I looked at that menu and thought you must be joking...I won't eat that...especially with it being Cajun style on most items...gotta tell you, it is now my FAVORITE all time restaurant).

My vote goes for Biergarten also! I'm not a big buffet guy but I love this place, aside from the banquet seating. But I can deal with that since the food is so good!!!

Tokyo Dining. It was our last night of eating fifteen days worth of the Disney Dining Plan. I was just so sick of eating, tired, and the thought of going over to Epcot, trudging through the World Showcase after a long day trip to the beach was not what I wanted! I admit, I was rather unpleasant to my poor husband who was dying to eat there. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The meal was wonderful, the service was incredible and it was a very nice atmsophere. I can't wait to go back!

San Angel Inn. I nearly cancelled this ADR several times based on the negative reviews here. But DH and DS wanted to eat here.
It was the surprise of the trip. It is a beautiful atmosphere - not too dark as some complain. The food was very good and the service was perfect - attentive without being overbearing.
We will return.
It was not the best meal of the week - Jiko was - but it was a very pleasant surprise.

Well, its not that we didn't want to go, but hadn't planned on it. Our first trip with our DDs we had Ohana planned, but the girls were worn out and we didn't go that night. So, we tried to get in a different night, of course we couldn't and the CM suggested Kona Cafe instead. We LOVED Kona and went back the next trip as well. The food was so good.

Strange as this will sound, for me it was Coral Reef. I don't like seafood, but dh does. Since I make the ADRs, I had avoided this one like the plague! But, last August we gave it a shot and I loved it!!! As did dh and dd.
On the other hand, we were really looking forward to Chefs du France...and hated it! Go figure.

For me it was Cape May Clambake

For DH it was Boma breakfast and Chefs De France dinner

All there were fantastic!

Many years ago because of reservation snafus we got free breakfast for two at any restaurant at WDW. Again, because of reservation snafus the only place we could get in was Grand Floridian Cafe. They put on a heck of a breakfast! One of the best I've every had anywhere.

well I wouldn't go as far as "Didn't want" to go cause I'll try anything once. But for years, we just had zero interest in Le Cellier because we felt that
a) We WERE Canadians, felt silly to go eat at the Canada restaurant.
b) Why was canada represented by a Steakhouse anyway?

But last trip, we decided to try it out and absolutely loved this place.

The whole 9 days my sister and I were at Disney, she kept craving Chinese. I really wasn't in the mood for it, and I'm very picky so I was not happy about eating in China(Nine Dragons) . :worried:

Boy, was I surpirsed!! The service was awesome, the drinks were yummy and the food was outstanding! I had some kind of shrimp noddle bowl which was huge, and my sister had the honey sesame chicken. I kept picking off her plate cause it was awesome! We also ordered a bowl of fried rice to share, oh and pork dumplings as an app. which i've been craving for 2 months now. There was so much food that we packed it up to take back to our room. With the check we got fourtune cookies, and they were the best i've ever had. My sister liked them so much she asked our server for one more and he came back with 10 more!! I can't wait to go back in october, Nine Dragons is now top on my list of ADR's!!:yay: :yay: :yay: :dance3: :dance3:

Well our suprise was Coral Reef. We had LeCellier booked and we cancelled it:scared1: I know the horror! We just had too much steak the whole week and decided to try Coral Reef again because we wanted fish. We were really shocked- we enjoyed it!

Garden Grill

I almost cnacelled this bc of some bad reviews, we realy enjoyed the food and the character interaction is the best. We just got back and had another great meal there:thumbsup2

Hollywood and Vine.
I'd read that some people had had bad experiences here, so I was aprehensive of trying it. Turns out it was a fantastic meal - one of the best we'd had in WDW! :)
Great thread idea btw! :goodvibes

I would say Ohana. When I went with my friends in 07 I had to plan all of the dining. I had always gone with my family, so they took care of that. I found these boards and read some travel books and Ohana did not get such great reviews at the time. It was the only thing available at a certain time that we needed one night, so I thought I'd try it. It is now my favorite restaurant there!!!!!!

We ended up LOVING Mexico. All the food was great and the atmosphere was AWESOME!!!!

I have 2 restaurants that pleasantly surprised me. I wasn't very excited about Biergarten, because I was raised in a city with great German food, so am a bit spoiled about it. I ended up having a fabulous time and enjoyed the food very much. Bad reviews made me very nervous about Hollywood & Vine, but it was terrific.

For me it was Maya Grill at CSR. I wanted to take advantage of the fact we had a TS at our hotel (normally stay at POP), but kept reading so many bad reviews about this restaurant. I was just sure it was going to be bad. Well, the food was great! I very rarely eat all of my meal, especially when I get an appetizer and a dessert; but, I ate every last bite.

The service was a little slow and the server was almost a little awkward (not sure he quite new what to do when DD was acting up a little bit :lmao: ); but the food more than made up for it. I would go back if ever I stay at CSR again.
