We're relocating to the Orlando area (or surrounding by 30 miles)...Which towns have really good schools? So far we've thought of DeBary and Orlando .

Define good...

Well, lets just say, DH had three interviews in the Orlando area. (Two were with WDW IT department), and well, we decided against relocation.

We just had a hard time going from the district we are in presently to there. Orlando has many many districts to choose from. The class sizes in Orlando schools (some not all), were huge high twenty most, to some being in the thirty range.. where our district tops out at 20!

Our district also requires every teacher to have a Masters Degree, Orlando did not.

Lived in the Orlando area in 93-95. The school districts are county wide. Orlando is in Orange County and we lived just north of Orlando in Winter Springs. It is in Seminole County. We were told at the time that Seminole was much better than Orange County. The schools in Florida were not up to par with what we experienced in other states. Really look at the schools and you may want to consider private school or getting a tutor to move your child along.

My friend lives in Indiatlantic and as
an educator, judges the schools above
average. It's on the east central coast
above Daytona.

I just wanted to clarify shortbun...Indialantic is south of Daytona on Florida's Space Coast. It is part of the Brevard County School District. The high school is not in Indialantic but Melbourne (Melbourne High School, where I went). Actually in Brevard County the best elementary schools are in the Suntree area and the best high school is Satellite High in Satellite Beach.

Florida in general has an education system below par. This is because of cheaper property taxes, no state income tax and an economy based on toursim, which is never a steady factor. Private schools are another option. There are plenty of wonderful private schools in the state, especially in the Tampa area. When or if I have any children this is the option I will be exploring.

Just to use an example, I attended 9th grade in a wonderful school district in Pennsylvania. I repeated many of the same things my 10th and 11th grade years here in Florida.

What about Celebration?? I have heard they have a good school, k-12, and they are building a new High School.

Tom...
