Which to pick? Yacht or Beach?

Our family is about to shrink down to 3 kids from 7. Oldest graduated college and lives in California. 2nd oldest graduated college and lives in Alabama. Twins will be graduating high school in May and both have joined the Navy and shipping out in June. That leaves our 14, 12, and 11 year olds. One would think with less kids, the Disney trips would be cheaper!!

Anyways, We showed the last three kids some Youtube videos of several resorts for our upcoming January trip and they want to stay at the Yacht or Beach Club for the awesome pool.

Anyone have a preference regarding the Yacht or Beach? Pros? Cons?

Many thanks in advance for your opinions!

Personally, I like the room design at Yacht better—also you are pretty much guaranteed a balcony at YC. Apart from ascetics of the rooms and lobby, there really isn’t too much difference btwn the two hotels. They share amenities and restaurants and it’s only a couple minute walk from one to the other. One thing to watch out though—we were once there in early January and it was too cold to swim almost the entire vacation. SAB was open, but practically no one was in bc of the weather. We ended up just using the hot tubs the entire time. SAB is great, but swim time can be unpredictable in the winter.

Have a great vacation which side you choose. 😀

Yacht Club is more refined than BC and a bit quieter, as PP said you almost certainly get a balcony at YC which makes the rooms nicer and feel bigger.
All facilities are shared so I guess it's down to the rooms.
If It had the choice I would pick YC, but we are DVC and can only use BC with our points.

I like the overall vibe and rooms at the YC over the BC rooms, especially since your kids are older. However, it is not enough to cause me any concern if I had to stay BC instead.

I have stayed club level at both and prefer the YC due to less kids.

Big part of our decision process is transportation options and in that Beach Club gets the tiniest of advantages. When we stayed there, we requested and rec’d a room on the upper floor facing the woods. So quiet, and the door we exited was the closest you could possibly get to the International gateway entrance. That extra 5 minutes of walking to Yacht isn’t a big deal unless you are doing it multiple times a day and back when we had 3 tired little girls with us. But Epcot is our hands down favourite park and we always visit during Food & Wine so even when visiting other parks during the days we would return to Epcot for dinners. If you favour other parks then perhaps this isn’t as important a factor.

We prefer YC, we like the rooms better and the balcony. My 8 year old child’s complaint, and he still talks about it years later, is the lack of grab and go food court type options. The pool restaurant had the most kid friendly food, but their hours are limited and theyclose during bad weather. My kids prefer AKL (Jambo and Kidani) to the other resorts we have stayed at (WL, YC/BC, AoA, POR, CSR). The Mara is great and the pools never feel croweded at AKL.

Want a more quiet and adult vibe, Yacht. Want a more vibrant and whimsical vide, with kids literally everywhere, choose Beach. We choose Beach since there are no DVC units at Yacht. Beach does have the benefit of a much quicker walk to the IG too.

They’re both great! We’ve stayed mostly at YC and our 8 year old son loves it! We also love the clean feel of the room and the balcony.. I can’t help but love a none carpeted floor now :)
We’re headed back the end of August and can’t wait! Have fun planning!

We prefer Beach Club because of a more casual feeling. Its also slightly closer to Epcot.

I like the Yacht Club rooms better. Real balconies, better designed storage for your stuff, and better themed (curtains are dark blue with constellations made from Disney characters). YC has laminate floors, BC carpet. Beach Club is a shorter walk to Epcot. But I love them both and would happily stay at either anytime - they are my top 1 & 2 resort pics (3rd would be Wilderness Lodge).

Hi, I prefer the YC better. We just had a better room when we stayed at the YC vs BC is why I feel this way, and a different feel in the entrance area. The BC room we had overlooked the parking lot roof and we had loud neighbors that visit, and far down the hallway from the elevators. Our YC trip was just a better room but I went with Garden View then. Next visit doing the same. Unfortunately I don't plan well enough in advance to catch the discount. YC is slightly farther than BC to Epcot and the skyliner would be a con. But, it was also slightly closer to HS since we walk there. My kids are teens, and they would like either one since you can use the pool for either and close enough to lots of food choices with Epcot in either case.

YC water view room by the quiet pool, the Laundry room is right there, the pool is nice & hardly anyone in the hot tub at night.

We love them both. We are staying at YC this year because the Disney+ discount was much higher at YC

YC Pros - almost all rooms have balconies or patios. Quieter.

BC- always our favorite. Just love the “beach” vibe

There is a huge difference in theming. The YC is a quieter, older, and more refined, while the beach club is more casual and fun. Can't go wrong with either as they share the pool and other amenities.

Our best trip yet was last summer at Yacht Club. We had a first floor room by the quiet pool. The kids could swim and we could get ready. We didn’t have to worry they were all the way at the main pool and we couldn’t get a hold of them . Just walk out on the patio and call them in . It was like having our own pool and hot tub ! No carpet and a walk-in shower . The room was awesome! Perfect location!

We prefer Yacht Club, but I always feel like we are really splitting hairs when trying to decide the "better" of the two. Same pool. You can enjoy all the restaurants. Both walking distance to two parks.

The only real thing the Yacht Club has over Beach Club is that all of the rooms have balconies. If you need or want one and don't want to gamble with a room request, YC might be the better of the two. I will say, I really enjoy breakfast Ale & Compass. I think it's priced well and the food has always been very good, at least in our experiences. Having that option right down in YC's lobby is terrific.
