Which tickets should we buy???

Sorry if this is a simple question...but I've been searching and reading and really confused. I read the other thread, but found out that Undercover Tourist only has Disneyworld tickets? Here is our situation...
We are staying at GCV Oct 3rd thru the 10th. We have not yet purchased entry tickets to the Park.

We need entry into the park for 8 days (Mom, Dad and 7 & 5 yr old boys)
Are the Deluxe Annual Passports our only option? We don't need the Premium, because there are no blackout dates during our trip. So with the DVC discount $309 for each of us. ($1236)

Disney has a Parkhopper Bonus for $216 and $190 ($812), but only for 6 days...we need 8 days..

ARES Travel doesnt show anything cheaper than the Parkhopper above.

We were going to try and visit Universal Studios one day and Knott's Berry Farm one day..but because both close relatively early, we would still need a pass to get into Disney at night...Thus we need a pass for each day of our stay.
What is our best option to gain entry to Disneyland park for 8 days???

There are no tickets beyond a 6 day for Americans (for Australians it's different, lucky people!).

And with DLR, you don't "keep the discount" when upgrading like you do at WDW; you get credit for what you *paid* for the ticket you upgrade from, so there's no point in buying a discounted ticket if you're upgrading to an AP.
