Can anyone tell me which umbrella strollers I could find for for my 45-50 lb child, preferably with a basket underneath. So, far I have only found ones up to 40 lbs. Since we don't really use a stroller anymore, except for this WDW trip, we are looking to go budget for this stroller.

The maclarens are the only ones I know of that go over 40lbs. Mine goes up to 55lbs. It has a sunshade, basket, and higher handles than regular umbrella strollers. They are, however on the pricey side. I paid $140 for mine.

and only using the stroller for WDW, my recommendation is check your local craigslist.org for a used Graco stroller. I have one (lite rider I think) that seems to just not want to die. My dd is 8 and weighs I'd guess close to 80 lbs now, but I had absolutely no trouble using it when she was 5-6-7 years old (she is not a small child-weight was up to 70 lbs for sure).

It has a huge basket and folds up nice and flat. Bought it used and paid hardly more than $25 for it and it keeps going and going.

I also just recently bought a maclaren quest because of my ds3 and although I don't technically need it (because my workhorse of Graco stroller won't die), I wanted to treat myself (and maclarens have good resale value).

So you don't need a fancy stroller to get the high weight value. I find that my graco pushes just as easily (dare I say it) as my expensive maclaren quest.

And because it was cheap, I don't worry about any scratches or how much I use it or how well I take care of it. I know I won't resell it, so I just use it. Hope this helps you decide.

I own a kidco stroller. It happens to be this one http://www.strollerideas.com/kililsbast2.html I love it. I can't say enough good things about it. It just survived 7 days at WDW. I however didn't pay that much for it. I think I paid about $70 for it on ebay brand new. It came in the box and we had to put a few things together on it.

I looked at Peg Perigos and McClarens when looking for a compact umbrella type stroller with adjustable handles (tall DH).

I got a previous year model Maclaren Volo last year for $68 shipped. It didnt have the canopy, but I was only buying it for my Disney trips (2) and we were going in Nov/Dec and wouldnt need it. (DD could wear a hat if it got too sunny). It is a great stroller and I wish I would have seen it years ago. It holds up to 55 pounds, but I know it will take more because my DD is 50-52 pounds now and we had it loaded with bags and food and it still pushed like a dream. I felt like the price was very worth it. We used it for 2 trips and now I can resell it and make the money back. It is in great shape. Look online for best prices for a Volo. You wont be sorry.

I have a kidco and I love it! My DH is very tall and the adjustable handles are so wonderful.

I used a Chicco Caddy with my 5 yr old last summer and it was fine. He was almost 50 lbs and we had no problem maneuvering it at all. We are going to use it this May for the land portion of our trip so he will most likely be over 50lbs at that point but the Caddy is REALLY rugged. When are you going? I am thinking about leaving the stroller at the resort for whomever may need it, we are not planning on using it again after this trip!!!:wizard:

We are going the first week in July. I did see the Caddy and I wondered whether it would be good, especially given the inexpensive price. Thanks for your endorsement. Like you, I won't really use a stroller after the trip.

I just saw that the Chicco is only good for 33 lbs. Would it really fit and hold a 45-50 pounder with some items in the basket?

Britax makes an umbrella stroller that looks pretty nice. It reclines and holds up to 40lbs and they have the Blue Blaze color on sale for $49.99.
I'm considering getting this for our trip next month. Here is a link to the stroller:

KitKate- I was concerned about the fit as well but he was fine. He is a solid boy so there wasn't alot of wiggle room. He took a snooze in the reclined position one afternoon, too. We actually had quite a bit in the net underneath and a sling bag over the handles. I was also pleased by how easy it was to push. We were going to try and do without the stroller this time but really they get soooooo tired in the heat with all the walking and excitement. I also like a place to store water bottles and such.

We bought a Mac Quest too. Absolutely love it! Can't say enough good about it. I thought of it as an investment, as in I would never have to rent one at disney then and figured what I was willing to pay that way. I actually paid full price and have no regrets. We go to disney enough though to make it worthwhile. Atleast one big and one small trip a year.

Another vote for Maclaren Volo! We bought ours for our DD4 for our trip last year. It cost $80 but when we compared it to others, there was NO comparison. DH and I are tall, and the handles are very tall and we even argued over who got to PUSH it! :) We're taking it back down there again in a few weeks. Woo hoo!

I have to agree...Maclarens are the best! I have two...a Quest Mod single for DD 19 months, and a Twin Techno for her and my 5 year old DS (trips to the mall, trips to WDW, etc) These are the best two strollers I have EVER owned!!!! You can't go wrong with a Maclaren!
