Which Stroller would you get/Autism

I have used Kingdom Strollers before for my granddaughter. Had the city-mini. This time we are bringing our grandson with Autism. We are using the stroller for both. They will take turns. Both around 60 pounds. Saw 2 different ones on the site that might work. If any of you have used a rented stroller, which one did you use and where did you get it. We will most likely tag it for line use. Please let me know what you did.

If she's 60 lbs I would get the larger stroller (holds more weight and is for taller children). We usually use a City Mini and the smaller one holds my 45 lb, 46 inch tall DD but this may be her last trip in that one as she's almost too tall for it.

I really recommend not use stroller if they are more than 60 pounds.

First, they are not going to stay in stroller for long even if you have the biggest stroller in the world. It is just not comfortable and fun for them to sit in the stroller when they are this big. You would end up chasing two mini-teenagers and having to push/park a big stroller.

Second, even if they stay, it is going to be strenous to push them around.

Save you back and let them walk. If they are tired, you can always find a bench or some quiet place to sit down.

That is true - especially for kids with Autism, the stroller can become a safe haven and prevent them from roaming.

For the original poster, I would look at the height of the kids as much as the weight. The website says:

The BOB Revolution Single™ has a weight capacity of 70lbs and is good for a child up to 47".

The City Elite Single™ has a weight capacity of 75lbs and is good for children up to 50" tall.

The height will affect the leg room, leg position and also the child's head might hit the sunshade.

The BOB has bigger wheels, which can make something easier to push, but that also might make it harder for the child to get into.
If there is a store near you that sell either, it might help to go look at them.

If you don't think you will need it outside of the parks, you might also want to consider renting in the parks. Those strollers are easy yo push, even heavily loaded and would save having to pack up a stroller to get into a car or bus.

We use a Maclaren Major Elite, which I think can be a little harder to find to rent, but we ended up buying one used for about the same as a rental would cost. I haven't checked recently, but last I did, some of the more "medical" rental companies in the disAbilities FAQ sticky near the top of this forum had the Maclaren Major available. It's a larger-sized umbrella stroller, should be fine for kids that size (similar to my DD's current size), and very easy to fold/carry for WDW transportation unlike some larger special-needs strollers, though very basic without the bells and whistles some of the extra features some larger ones offer.

I agree with other posters to look at the recommended height as well as weight, and also consider how you expect it to be used -- for fatigue, safe haven, to carry "stuff" as well as kid, etc.?

What stroller does he typically use? It may be difficult for him to be OK with a new stroller.

What is the stroller used for? Our personal stroller is a Chariot double, and it's great for my son because when he gets overwhelmed we can cover the top with a blanket, and it's like a rolling tent. Something like a BOB double could be used for this purpose as well, with the child hiding in the seat that is under the other seat. The Chariot weight limit is also 100 lbs, BTW. I'm not sure if you will find a double that will go to 120.

I have a BOB duallie revolution & a city mini GT double. My oldest has time issues and needs the rest after a while. He's 53lbs and while really too tall to make the hood useful on the BOB it's an easy push even with his 56lb brother in it. The CM GT isn't nearly as easy with them both in it. I have the glider board I can push both of my little guys 27lb & 38lbs in the stroller and a big kid on the board of the GT easily.

My 3yr old uses the stroller and large hoods to decompress all day long. He's love love love to run the parks but it's not safe and he'd be so overstimulated by noon we'd all be a hot mess.

Thank you guys for answering. We are going to measure him before we make our decision. Sue, thanks, we do need it more for his need to be in his own space. I think the BOB looks like the best option for us. My granddaughter is fine, but believe me when she needs to be done, she is done! She is solid as a rock, and that walk out to the bus is not short. That would be like carrying 65lbs of dead weight, plus the fact she will have a slippery princess dress on. Last time she crashed during the fireworks! The stroller was a life saver.

I am bringing my double stroller when I go in May. I don't think a side by side would work for why we are brining it - for sensory overload - he can sit in the back pull the canopy over and be in his own little cocoon. DS is 9, the last time we went ( me, DH, DS and DS 2 who was 18months)he was 5 and this is what he mainly used it for. We did the parks open to close and never had any meltdowns or major issues. We took it EVERYWHERE! If we didn't need it fine, but we had it if we did. It went in lines, in shows - anywhere we could take it we took it! When we booked our trip the first thing I did was ask the person I gave it too, we haven't needed for about 3 yrs now, if I could borrow it for a week.

Most tandems won't accommodate a 9year old. I'd consider a Baby jogger hood for him it's really big and closes really far down. The bobs hoods do too but not nearly as tall. They can't see the passenger next to them in either.
