Has anyone been on both the Caribbean Queen Snorkel Tour AND the Catamaran Sail and Reef Snorkeling? I can't get a good idea about the difference between the two other than one uses a catamaran to sail you there and the other uses a regular boat(?). Or have you been on one or the other and just think it's great? I'm trying to decide which to book for DH and myself (no kids this time!).

Thanks,
Joye

As a single adult, I did the Catamaran Reef Sail and Snorkel and loved it. The boat is small. Bring only what you need, including underwater camera. We motored to the snorkeling area which had plenty of coral and fish. The ride back was under sail. There was plenty of rum punch and potatoe chips.

I was ready for an adventure and rode on the net in the bow between the outriggers. There were some children, but most were over 8 and ready to swim and snorkel. :teeth:

We also did the catamaran sail and it was great. We sat with our feet in the net area of the boat. The kids loved it because the sat/laid in. Plus, this is right where you go to get off for snorkeling. Don't be shy about getting in line if you have a full boat. It took 15 min. to get in the water. When you are only out for a short time, 15 min. makes a big difference.

Bring bottled water from the ship. It was very hot and we bought a bottle on the way. They do give out small cups of water, very small. This will also come in handy if your eyes start to burn from the salt water.

I wonder if someone can give more specifics on what you might see in these snorkel tours on Nassau. Are we talking bunch of the same fish swimming around, or all different types? Anything other then average fish and coral (barracuda, shellfish)? I'm just trying to figure out if the snorkel is really that interesting or if we should head for the beach :) I once took a snorkel tour and it was something like this: "ooh, look a that bright yellow fish! And there's a blue one...and another of the yellow, and some more of the yellow, and one more blue. oh look, there's that same yellow one...let's call him Bob" It was kind of like watching a loop of a 30 second fish video played for an hour :rotfl:

We did the catameran sail/snorkle with a company called seahorse. I would not take this tour again or recomend it. The site was not very nice just in the middle of a channel and the water was probably about 15-20feet deep. No protection from the wind so waves were a problem. I think there is a shark snorkle with Stuarts Cove or something like that heard realy good thing about that tour but we won the seahorse tour through HAL so took that instead:(
