Which ship for a Disney newbie?

The Wonder like the Magic less crowded and visits great places, like Alaska and Panama and sometimes Hawaii. Just finished drydock last November and is awesome with the new show Frozen, best show ever. all the ships are great!!

Interesting theory, I would love to see a poll thread with this question. For me our first DCL cruise was the Magic however the Wonder is our favorite ship, Route 66 in the adult area was much more fun than Beat Street. There have been what is your favorite ship polls but I have never seen one asking if your first ship is your favorite. :surfweb:

Our first was Disney Dream, but it is our least favorite of the four. Our favorite is Disney Magic (our fourth ship) because of the variety of itineraries and the more intimate feel of the classic ships. Disney Wonder would be second, and it was our second ship. Disney Fantasy is our third favorite and was our third ship.

I would suggest the Magic or the Wonder. It is a smaller ship, so easier to explore. Then when you go on the larger ship, there will be a lot of things that you already know about, and it will give you an opportunity to explore the different features. The Magic and Wonder is also less chaotic than the Dream.

Our first cruise was on the Disney Dream 3-Night. It was perfect way to fall in love with cruising and short enough to learn my husband gets sea sick haha.

I would not worry about which ship with Disney. More important is which Cruise goes where you want to go and has dates and a price you can live with. The only time it should come down to which ship is if you want the 3-4 day Cruise out of Canaveral and the Dream and one of the Classic ships ( Magic or Wonder ) are also doing the same itinarary. Cruises out of other ports will always be the Classic ships.

Always be classic ships until the new ones come out. :) But I agree with your recommendation. They are seasoned cruisers so they understand how cruises work for the most part. I would offer this advice for the original poster however: A 4 year old won't know what they are missing being on one ship vs. the other. They can have a great time regardless. So the itinerary may matter more to them. We find that many of the more adventurous ports do not have many DCL excursions for kids that young. Granted we don't usually get off the ship these days anyway!

Our first ship was the Wonder, but our favorite is the Fantasy (the third ship for us).

Our first cruise we went on the Magic, it's one of the smaller ships, but it's one of the first ships Disney came out with, so we wanted to start there. Also the Dream and the Fantasy are Disney's big momma ships, so if you go on one of those first when you go on the Magic or the Wonder later you might be left thinking "oh this is it?" because they're much smaller. Just a thought!

Totally agree! Start small. I would personally always go with a 7 night though. It's a waste of time for me to get packed for just a few night. :D

You need to start with Magic or Wonder though and then Fantasy (or the Dream - too short for me). You'll have something to look forward to. :dogdance:

Love the Magic! Its not as crazy busy as the Dream, Castaway will be less people for a nice beach day plus the magic has a great slide and splash area. You will have a great time on any ship but the Magic and Fantasy are my 2 favorite :)
