Which route better into WDW?

There are two routes Maps google is picking up for us to come into WDW (staying at CSR). Both routes are about the same time but I'm wondering if one will have less congestion. We will be coming in around noon on 12/21 (Monday).

We'll be coming south on I-75.

One option has us staying on I-75 and eventually to 408.

The other option has us getting on 429 and then Western Way. (This looks to be more of a "back way" in)

The 429/WW route is the most direct for you at CSR (I75-Turnpike-429-WW). 429 has one toll booth (takes SunPass). 429 has had very little traffic every time I used it.

Western Way is a speed trap run by the Orange County po-po. It's very tempting to go fast (multi-lane, wide open, almost there, etc.) and I have seen many people stopped. Then CSR pops up on the left - easy smeezy.

My vote is for 429/Western Way. There is very little traffic on 429 or on Western Way, but watch your speed on both highways. Once you're on Western Way, go to the end, turn left and CSR is the next left. We live about an hour northwest of WDW and go this way all the time.

Thanks everyone! And appreciate the tip on watching speed although my DH is normally a non-speeder - ya' never know as it is near the end of the trip and everyone will be anxious to get there!!!! I believe this is the way we came 5 years ago when we drove - but I'm getting old and can't really remember. I just know it didn't feel like we were coming in the main entrance.

I'll dig into it as well but I assume our I-Pass will work with SunPass - we've used it all throughout the Midwest and East without problem.

Just checked as well and it doesn't look like I-pass is compatible with the Sunpass system. If you do the 429 route, there is only one toll plaza south of the FL turnpike and since traffic is usually light, I've never seen more then one or two vehicles in the cash only lane, so minimal wait time to go through.

Going Western Way you are definitely not coming in the main entrance, but they do have the large "gateway" that announces WDW with Mickey and Minnie on the sides. Pretty much the same as the other entrances.

I think this is still true.

There's a federal law mandating inter-operability between systems. I'm not sure when the deadline for that is, or if there will be any consequence if it doesn't happen.

Another vote for 429. The speed limit will be 45 for a mile or two, then will decrease to 35 right before a curve. The curve is where the police generally set up (although may set up before that). When it becomes 35, be sure to get in left lane. Western Way will dead end and you will turn left. Be in the left most turn lane. After you turn, Coronado Springs should be the first left turn you come to. Much simpler than I4! (I live off 429 near 535 (Daniels rd), so I drive this often.) have a safe trip!

Just so there's no confusion, the speed limits that AGoofykindagirl is referring to are on Western Way, not 429. They raised the speed limit on 429 from 65 to 70 about a year, or so, ago.

Yes, sorry, did not mean to confuse the issue further. Speed "trap" of 45 to 35 is on Western Way. And the 70 on 429 is great. Thanks, Outahere. An extra set of eyes is always helpful. If only I had them before I hit post.

To be clear, SunPass is the transponder system for the FL turnpike.

The Orlando area toll-roads (not including the Turnpike) use the E-pass transponder system. Around Orlando the E-pass system accepts SunPass. The only non-Florida systems that accept SunPass are in Georgia and North Carolina.

McDonalds, Chili's, Village Inn, Uno's, Red Robin, Chick-Fil-A, Cracker Barrel, KFC/Taco Bell, Longhorn Steakhouse, Panera Bread, Chipotles, Five Guys Burgers, and a couple of others I can't remember the names of right now. It can be difficult getting across the lanes for the right turn (for me at least- I'm terribly chicken), but most people do not seem to have a problem. And it is easy to get back to 429 (Tampa bound) to get to Disney.

Just so there's no confusion, ...

Just to add some confusion, Toll 429 is also called Western Beltway.

Western Way ends slightly west of its 429 interchange. There has been a small amount of development (condominiums) to the west. Hartzog Rd. is also to the west, and may still be named on the exit sign. To the east, in WDW, (left as you exit 429 coming from Florida's Turnpike) there was once planned some development comparable to Disney Springs (DTD) plus some hotels which would then give Western Way a character similar to Buena Vista Drive.

October 2016 is the target date for all roads with electronic tolls to be compatible with one another nationwide. Some road agencies may expect their own subscribers to turn in their transponders for new ones. I expect that drivers will still have to assume that an out of state road is not compatible until its agency advertises that it is.
