Which rides for older kids?

My kids are 7 and 10 and we last visited DLP 5 yrs ago, when they couldn't go on many of the rides and some they could go on, they didn't want to!
I've looked on the DLP site about ride restrictions and it looks like they can now go on most rides as they are both over 130cm tall (dd1 is over over 140cm tall)

I went on the rock'n'roller coaster last time, and I really don't think it's suitable for them! So, which rides would you say are most suitable for their age? I'm thinking Crush, BTM, Studio Tram Tour...any more?

My DD is 9 and loves BTM. She tried Crush last yr when she was still 7 and hated it and also did R and R which she hated as well but I know some others the same age love both

My daughter is 11 now, but has loved every ride as soon as she has become tall enough for it. The only one she won't do again is Star Tours but that left her with a sicky headache.
She adores RnRC BTW - the first 360 loop she tried (as Space Mountain was closed the year she became tall enough for those 2 rides) - she was 7 then.

Everyone's different with rides.

I went to florida when I was 7 and went on every big rollercoaster there. I especially loved all the looping ones!! So maybe let them try one that loops rather than write them all off for your kids.

Indiana jones could be a good start as its very short, often has low queues and only goes upside down the once. Then if they like that (which would surpirse me if a 10 year old didn't!) go for space mountain, anf the RnR last as the take off is pretty extreme.

Crush spins a lot, but loads of kids LOVE it, doesnt loop or have massive drops or anything.

Also, tower of terror is really scary to me, but kids seem to love that too! I know I'd have loved it when I was younger, just getting a wuss with age!! Lol.

You best know your kids. Mine are age 3 and 5 and they go on Big thunder and Star Tours very happily. The only attractions they do not do are Space Mountain, RNR Coaster, Crush and Indy because of the height restrictions.

I personally find Crush is a little scarier than RNR Coaster. If push comes to shoe, you could go on the attraction 1st and then evaluate whether it is suitable for yours.

Indy is not as fierce as RNR Coaster or Space Mountain, but does has a loop and is a little rougher. You could start with that one (based on the assumption the kids have already ridden Big Thunder).

Thanks guys. I know dd1 would love to go on all the rides, but I'm too scared to let her iykwim? Interesting thoughts on crush...it doesn't look that scary on the website, but i might just check it out before she goes on it.
Dh is a wuss so he won't go on anything more scary than small world

if they are tall enough and want to ,then let them

they will soon decide if they want to ride a certain attraction again / or not ! lol

both my boys 12 and 6,love crush ( i wasnt too keen!) BTM ,as do i !
indiana jones is my eldest sons fave,i enjoyed it ( with eyes closed whole time ) and youngest is dying to ride it once he is tall enough

we all liked ( but hated at the same time! IYKWIM !) tower of terror!
and all love star tours

of course theres the gentler rides like buzz,pirates etc that arent fast or scary but great for the whole family

Dependent on where you sit, you can end up upside down a few times on Crush, not knowing when. It is a teacup on a coaster and sometimes the track is sideways meaning you can be facing the ground or ceiling.

Well obviously it depends on the children, but my daughter (turned 7 this week) LOVES Rock'n Rollercoaster, Crush, ToT and BTM.

But then she loved ToT at the age of 3, so if your kids aren't thrill seekers she might not be a good measure!

So did you all feel your kids were safe and secure on the 'big' rides? That's my main fear, that dd1 will be rattling around, feeling like she's going to fall out.
I loved scary rides when I was young, but since having kids I seem to be much more sensible!

They'll be fine!

That's why they have the size restrictions! As long as they are tall enough they wont come close to falling out, disney could never afford to take such a risk!

Please don't be scared in advance for your kids about stuff like this, I've grown up seeing my Aunt be the same with my cousin, and now she wont even try anything! Such a shame!!

My mum took me to dlrp 11 years ago when I was 12, and she hates rollercoasters, I went on everything on my own and had the best trip! I loved them! Only time I got scared was when my harness was the last one to pop up after space mountain was finished! Lol.

All the rides that go upside down have over shoulder harnesses, so even tiny people coudn't fall out at all. And as people on the boards here say, even 3 and 4 year olds go on BTM, Crush and ToT, so a 7/8 years old will be absolutely fine!

If your kids want to go on something then they definitely should! It's their holiday!

I don't worry at all about my daughter falling out - but then I am nowhere near her! She's the brave one, like Torsie was as a child. I don't do fast rides - not even BTM, so since we started going to DLRP as 'girls only' trips, my daughter has had to ride on her own....and she loves it.

Hehe, that's the problem - I think I would be fine if dh would take them on some of the rides, but he was scared in the orbitron last time we went

I get scared on Orbitron as well - Id much prefer to do Tower of Terror than that

these are all great responses for the older kids' rides! the one thing that's helped me with rollercoasters (at disney and other places too) has been to always keep my head pushed back against the seat while on the ride. if you do that, your head won't bang the sides of the harness restraints and you won't rattle around in your seat as much! hope this helps - i'm sure your kids will love the coasters!

Definitely!! I always push my head back (after a very painful ride on the Turbo at Brighton Pier!!) when on rollercoasters, and also try ot keep it moving side to side.
