Which rides are too intense?

I read your thread and then started working at the computer. I turned on the Travel channel and there was a special about Animal Kingdom. (THey have one for every park)

Anyway, they showed a lot of the rides and how they work. Now I would never want to ruin the magic for any child, but I thought maybe you could TiVo it or tape it and only show your children the part that might help them to understand the ride. THis way they might be able to decide ahead of time.

Now having said that, they can't do the rides justice on a TV show. We love Dinosaur, but it is really loud. The first time we rode my DDs weren't quite sure even after getting off, but mommy and daddy loved it and couldn't stop talking about it. They then got into wanting to be part of the group and ended up loving it. Also the more you ride, the less scary it is.

However, DD #2 is not interested in ToT. She has ridden it and no matter how much we talk it up as being great, she is not buying it. However, this same DD loves RNRC. I think it is because she can't see it. If she could, she would never have tried it. I don't think she realizes she is going upside down as many times as she does, and she has never asked.

I have seen more horrified children in Tough to be a Bug than any other attraction. I even witnessed a young boy wet his pants. This is not your ordinary 3-D movie.

DD4 at the time loved ToT and Dino ride. Went back when she was 6 was scared to death. Cried on dino ride. Don't know what will happen when we go back in Dec.

That is weird about the 3-D Bug show being so scary. I wonder what that little boy would have thought of Shrek 4-D.

Lysi did not seem exactly scared at Stitch's Great Escape, but she SURE thought it was real. I will never forget how apprehensive she was during the fireworks as she looked to see if Stitch was still on the castle tower. I don't think she will ever think of Stitch in the same way again.

Planning fanatic, you are a parent after my own heart. I played Travel Channel tapes of WDW and SW over and over and over.. etc. I found the show on AK only and loved it. I used the tapes, as well as YouTube to help desensitize our little one to the "scary" things and I think it helped, especially with Dinosaur, Splash Mountain and Kali River Rapids.

Our DD was just over 3 our last trip (Dec 06) and she was very adventurous, went on anything and everything she could 38'. This up comming trip she will be 5 (Oct 08) and will be around 44'. SO I have been wondering the same things about the intensity. She is still very adventerous, but I am wondering what she will be like if we went on HM, ToT and Dinosaur. Those are the main three that I think she would have a problem with. The ToT just because of the 'preshow' stuff, movie, cms in character etc. THe ride she would love.

So thank you for brining this up...just great to talk about it and get suggestions, tips etc

We took out the book from the library WDW with Kids and found the info given on each attraction to be pretty accurate. Ie, scare factors, etc. Of course each child is different, but you can pretty well tell what would be ok and what wouldnt be for your particular child or children. Grammy

When DS9 was 4 he was tall enough to go on Space Mountain and Tower of Terror and LOVED them. DS7, on the other hand found, The Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan and the Adventures of Snow White too intense when we went last year (he was 6).

the worst ride experience we had on our first trip this oct was dinosaur, my DS (8) was terrified of this ride, the sound was even too loud for me, haunted mansion worried him a bit, snow white is a ride that is hard to imagine as scary, my DD(2) loved it, stitch isn't as scary as it is somewhat lame, we actually laughed through the whole thing, it's tough to be a bug was funny, not a high priority but funny, TOT could be rough on younger kids but great for older ones, my DS(13) and I had front row seats enjoy your trip
