My husband and I frequently share meals when we eat out at our favorite Mexican restaurant aat home and we were thinking about sharing a few meals at Disney to save money and food waste.

Does anyone know which restaurants have large portions and which ones have small ones?

We do not want to attempt to share if the portions are very small, but we hate to waste the food if the portions are very large.

I think 50s Prime Time Cafe and Sci-fi Drive In Theater, both at Disney Studios-MGM serve large meals. You might also want to check out the restaurants in the Contemporary. The places you absolutely couldn't do that are Family Style service like Liberty Tree Tavern, in Magic Kingdom for dinner and Garden Grill in the Land in Epcot. Most restaurants give you plenty of food. Check over at the dining forum too. Oh, and maybe LeCellier in Canada in Epcot also. If I meal share, I always make sure I tip like I paid for two meals though.

A buffet won't help because you can't share.

I can't think of anywhere that the entrees are too small to share. However, I haven't eaten at any of the nicest restaurants, like California Grill, Citricos, etc. I know when I eat at nice restaurants outside WDW the portions are usually smaller.

DH and I share a lot. We usually each order our own soup or salad, or we share an appetizer, then we split an entree. They usually split it in the kitchen and bring it out on 2 plates. I think a lot of places give you more veggies when you do that.

I have been to restaurants before that charge extra if you split a meal. Does WDW do this?

My experience is that Disney does not charge you to share. Between the 3 of us we only order 2 entrees & an extra salad or just get appetizers & salads for dinner. Also at the counter service places an adult can order a kids meal.

just read on the universal board that nascar cafes portions were huge! thats in citywalk, where their is fee parking after 6 pm...

so if you have a car, why not try it?

Tony's Town Square Restaurant servces a huge portion of spaghetti and meatballs. I don't think one person could possibly eat the whole thing.

My family of 4 had no problem sharing meals last summer. We shared at Liberty Tree Tavern, [my favorite] LeCellier, [DH's favorite] and the Prime Time Cafe.[DS and dd's favorite]. We all had plenty to eat. We really enjoyed the sit down restaurants and could get out of the Florida heat for a little while. By sharing, we were able to enjoy a nice meal in a sit down restaurant while paying the same amount as a counter service restaurant. BTW, I'm an Iowa Parrothead, and am looking forward to the Alpine Valley show next weekend! It's my first time to see Jimmy in concert. I'm so excited! Are you going to any Buffett shows this summer? Hope this helps. Have a great time!!

The chicken dinners at Tusker House at the AK (counter service) are relatively inexpensive and also more than large enough to share.

I am going to seriously consider ordering more kid's meals for myself next time. The extreme heat makes me sick to my stomach and I ended up wasting food.

Hey Lilly! My co-worker & I just came back from Des Moines and she had to bring home a big Tequila glass pinata from Rock Bottom restaurant to make a hat out of for her trip to Jimmy!

Also, check out the large portion sizes at San Angel Inn at Mexico, Epcot: the chicken nachos were HUGE and absolutely delicious and as mentioned before, Tony's near the MK entrance: almost everything on the menu here seems larger-than-life, including the children's menu. :)

I haven't been to the Disney Rainforest Cafes, but i've been to Rainforest Cafes in New York and Arizona and they serve huge salads and pastas. In fact, I think I have split a meal there with my mother-in-law and I am not a light eater.

Thanks for all the feedback on the restaurants -- it helps my planning a lot. Lilly, you are going to love the concert! We have been going to them for about 10 years now and have never been to a bad one. This year we are going to Cincinnatti, Ohio on June 5 and to Pittsburgh, PA on September 4th.
