Which restaurant would you choose?

I have finally talked my husband into spending a little more money for one meal, (usually we split Q&C vouchers). We are debating between 50's Prime Time, Whispering Canyon and The Sci Fi. Which one would you choose and why? We will have 4 adults and a 12 year old daughter. Thank you for your help. Debby

This will be our first DVC stay too!

Okay, which restaurant? Well, personally, I wasn't too impressed with Prime Time 50's as far as the food goes. I can make what they serve better at home. It is a fun place to eat however. And to be fair, we've only been there once. Lots of people love it.

I thought the burgers at Sci-Fi were very good, but the tables are set up in cars, so you won't be facing your party. Two in the front and two in the back most likely...well, you have five in your party, so I don't know how they do that. Maybe they have a different arrangements for larger parties. I was also disappointed in the movies they were showing. Mostly old, cheesy sci-fi flicks.

Whispering Canyon was a lot of fun and we enjoyed the food. Set up family style, if I remember correctly. We went kind of late, around 9pm I think, so it wasn't as rowdy as I believe it can be. Think it would be most fun to go to this restaurant at dinner during peak dinner hours, where there will be the most interaction with wait staff and diners. We will probably try to do that on this trip. Esp since we are staying at VWL.

So for those reasons, I'd go with Whispering Canyon. Another bonus since it is at a resort, instead of a park, you can choose to go just about any time, rather than when you are in that particular park.

Have fun whatever you choose!

MMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Whispering Canyon......(Ribs and a Honey Brown....or 3, every trip) We make sure we go there during each visit.....Food, atmosphere, and the servers are usually very "Accomodating"...............

and the WL is a great place to walk around after dinner..........................

I think it depends on what you are in the mood for.

50's Prime Time (a must do on every trip for us) has more of a 'home cooked meal' quality to it. (DH loves the meatloaf!) The atmosphere is very fun too - the CM's bust on the adults as much as the kids.

Sci-Fi, in my opinion, is one of the best burger places IN a park. I don't eat meat that often, but these burgers were great and the chocolate shake was to die for. However, the set up is odd for larger parties (you may be at a picnic table instead of a 'car'). It's a little dark in there too - conversations are kinda hard to have.

Whispering Canyon, though I haven't eaten there in a while, has a really good menu too - everything from skillets to burgers. It CAN be rather loud there...as it's a racuous kinda of place - but the food is worth it. And WL is great to roam around in.

dunno if i helped - but those are my thoughts on the places! Enjoy!

We usually always eat at Prime Time and Sci-Fi on our trips. For pure entertainment value I would go with PT. Sci-Fi is a must for the kids, they love those stupid cars and those goofy movie clips.

Sci-Fi gets my vote. It's a perfect blend of camp and nostalgia. Not sure how it would work with a party of 5 though the way the tables are made.

Whispering Canyon is very cute for kids. 12 might be just a little old for it since it's very goofy with hobby horse races and silly waiters.

Prime Time is nice, not a favorite. More goofy waiters that pretend to be mom and nag you to "eat your veggies". Lots of people love it, but when I'm on vacation, the last thing I want to hear is some waitress telling me to eat everything on my plate or no dessert.

I vote for 50's Prime Time. The food is yummy and the atmosphere is cute. My kids love it. They especially love that you look through a viewmaster to see the dessert menu and they really liked their build-your-own-sundaes.

To be fair, I have never been to Sci-Fi. I have been to Whispering Canyon twice and have yet to experience the antics it is so well known for. The first time we went, we were seated back in the fireplace section, where we couldn't see any of the festivities and our server was NO FUN. The second time, we were seated in the main section and our server was fun, but I guess we missed the horse races and everything because we didn't see any of that going on.

Hi,

I have only been to Prime Time so that's my vote. Mom & I love it!!!

Two in the front and two in the back most likely...

So, if it's me and my dh and my dd--do we all fit in one car together, or what?

(cham, trying to imagine the car setup for three people....)

:D

Definitely 50's Prime Time Cafe. The fried chicken was delicious and it was a great experince, something that I hope to do on my next visit to WDw, whenever that may be.

We stayed at VWL in Oct. and ate at both WC(dinner) and Sci Fi(lunch)! We have a DS6 and we all enjoyed our lunch at Sci Fi, but the quality at WC was alot better! If you choose WC, try the bannana dust bowl for desert! Awesome! happy planning! :Pinkbounc

Sounds like some consideration of your husband's (and probably other adults in your party) personality is needed here...

People seem to either love PT50s or dislike it for the 'clean your plate' antics that are part of the theme. IMO, the three most likely influencing factors are age (generation), comfort with personal eating habits, and abillity to engage in playful confrontations.

Whispering Canyon is western slapstick comedy and/or child-like sillyness. Can be a real laugh to watch but some people may become quickly embarassed if they suddenly find themselves part of the show.

Sci Fi is dark and subdued. Everyone facing the same direction, watching campy scifi trailers is not great for conversations (but some good laughs at the cheesy costumes). It's a relaxed atmosphere where both WC and PT50s are interactive.

We ate at Sci Fi this past October for the first time and LOVED it. We were a pary of 6, and we had a car that had 3 rows of seats! I think the atmosphere is so cool, that you dont think twice about not being able to have a conversation. If you put your kids in their own seat, you can at least talk to the person you are sitting with. they kids are busy anyway.. coloring and and watching the movie clips. We had an awesome time there. We are going back next week and we are also trying the Prime Time too!!!

Thanks everyone for your input. The five of us discussed it and have pretty much decided on Whispering Canyon. Hopefully it will be fun and full of antics. Now we just need to get our reservations made. Debby
