Myself, my dd-5 want to make my mother/grandmother's birthday special while we are in disney. Her birthday is Dec. 16th and we do not plan to go to any of the parks on this day. I'm not sure what restaurant to go to. I want to have a cake delivered and I was thinking about Downtown Disney but there really isn't anything there. Any suggestions? I'm clueless.

If you are looking for a restaurant that is not in a Park, there are lots at the resorts or DTD. DTD might be nice because you can walk around afterwards and there are LOTS of choices there and you can find one that your mom would like (I don't know her tastes so it is difficult to recommend any specific restaurant). I also found Bluezoo at the Dolphin to be a fabulous seafood restaurant. I'm a big follower of the Poly and really like Ohanas. Kona can be hit or miss for me - sometimes it is out of this world and sometimes it is just ok for me. I've heard lots about California Grill at the Contemporary. You could book it around MK fireworks to watch those during/after dinner.

Good luck!

Personally I would take a look at the restaurants at all the resorts. There menus are posted here and on allears.com. That way she can, or you can see what she would like.
What type of food does she like? There is something for everyone.

My mother likes anything - its myself and my dd who are picky lol. But I want something where she can sit and have a cake brought out. But we are staying at Pop and I don't know what to do to fill up the day. I wanted to do DTD but it just looks too busy.

I would recommend Hoop De Doo Revue !!!

It's more than just dinner... it's DInner with a SHOW ! If my own Mom was around I"d definitely bring her there...

They will go around the theater and ask folks to stand who have birthdays...and then everyone sings Happy Birthday... The Show is great for all generations...

The food: Salad, Cornbread, Yummy Crispy Juicy Fried CHicken.... RIbs...Meat falls off the bone... Strawberry Shortcake for dinner... (You may be able to order her an extra cake...not sure).

Just a thought...

Hugs,
Mary

I would consider one of the restaurants at the Grand Floridian. If you choose Narcoossee's and time it properly, you can watch the MK fireworks and the water parade from your table. We always enjoy the food there. You could also consider the Grand Floridian Cafe in the main building. We've also had good luck w/ the food and service there. After your meal, the GF has lovely grounds to walk and several nice shops. Happy Birthday to her! :wizard:

Wow - that sounds awesome! Thanks =)

I would go to Narcoose's at the Grand Floridian. Beautiful views, really good food and their bakery makes wonderful cakes.

Second choice would be California Grill at the Contemporary.

How about taking her to the GF Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea? Get the "Grand Tea" and click your champagne flutes (filled with sparkling wine with a strawberry on the rim) to many more birthdays to come. :cutie:

*Since the tea already offers sweets you wouldn't have to order a cake or chocolate slipper dessert ahead to be served to you while you are there enjoying the tea, but you always could for an extra special touch :goodvibes

Edited to add: Also since you mention going on Dec 16th, the GF would have all the Christmas decorations up and you could look out at the Xmas tree and gingerbread house while sipping!

I like the idea of the afternoon tea at the GF too.

Honestly I think Narcoosees is way overpriced.

After the tea you could take a tour of the monorail resorts and check out all the christmas decorations and then you could even take the boat over to the wilderness lodge too.

For dinner I would probbly do Ohanas or Kona Cafe and then time your adr so that when you are done you can go out onto the Polynesian Beach to watch the water pagent and fireworks, then go hop on the monorail to the MK and go to your bus stop.

I hope you mom enjoys her day. Make sure to get her a birthday button.
