you were really going to like but didn't actually enjoy? And which restaurant were you surprised over how much you enjoyed it?

Mom and I were pumped up to eat at Cindy's and were not impressed - it was sort of blah. The CM's were great and the food was good but it wasn't really exciting. We could take it or leave it.

The Garden Grill on the other hand turned out to be our favorite meal! It was fun, and the food was good. We were expecting an okay meal there but we got much more!

Actually I thought that Hollywood Brown Derby was going to be on my must return to visit after visit list - but I'm still not impressed. I love fine dining and thought that I'd be bowled over by the food here - but I don't think it's all that it's cracked up to be, they do 2 things well a cobb salad and grapefruit cake. I thought the service was poor and I felt rushed. I'd go back if others in my party wanted to though.

I was really surprised by Chef Mickeys for Dinner. I'd been for breakfast and thought it was OK but the food was not as good as Cape May so I was dubious about going for dinner. It was fantastic! I loved the soup it was really creamy and flavoursome. I could have just visited the salad bar time and time again. The prime rib and the flank steak with the jus and gravy was great and best of all the mashed potatoes.

CynJ, I'm with you. I thought that I was really going to love CRT and it was my least favorite. I thought the breakfast was good, but I felt very rushed. Also when we went last year (the first time) I didn't know that the Princesses only come to your table once. I was disappointed. I do think that I might like to go back for lunch or dinner sometime. But since experience, I didn't even try for it this yr, we are going to try the Princess Storybook breakfast instead. I hope we have a better experience.

As for the one I thought I wasn't really going to enjoy, but did, I would say Mama Melrose's. I wasn't that hyped up for this one, but ended up really enjoying it. I found the food to be good and the prices were reasonable.

There are a few.....

CRT - one of the worst meals we had
H&V - the worst meal we had
Tony's - YUCK!!!!

And which restaurant were you surprised over how much you enjoyed it?

50's Prime Time
Chef Mickey's breakfast

Biggest expectation and let down on a restaurant was San Angel Inn, but I think it was just because of my entree choice. I'd try it again.

I wasn't sure if I'd like Jiko, but I went because I knew my fiancee would love it. Turns out it was tied with V&A's for best meal of the trip. It will perenially be on the return list. Of course I can't go this September or the wedding is off according to my fiancee, something about not being allowed to eat there without him.

I think the most disappointing was Cinderella's for lunch. The food has not been bad but bland orodd in the case of what I ordered. I like the atmosphere there and the service has been fine but after two times I won't return unless I am bringing someone new who wants to eat "in the castle".
I think the biggest surprise was our first trip at Epcot we ate lunch at Akershus and have been back on almost every trip.

The Mexican restaurant in Epcot. Food was cold and not very good

We expected to really enjoy the Princess breakfast in Norway, unfortunately the food as awful, as was the service.
On the bright side, 3yr. old DD was happy to meet the princesses.....

Jiko --- thought I would love it but hated it. Food was average, service was poor, atmosphere is dark and bare, prices were rideculous for what you get.

Peoples' experiences can be so different! CRT for lunch is the first one that popped into my mind as one that I was surprised how much I enjoyed. I went there once, just so I could say I'd been there, and I loved it! It's a must do-whenever I'm lucky enought to get ressies. The others I liked more than I'd expected are Pizzafari (really!) and Biergarten.
Biggest disappointments were Boatright's (only time I complained about the service) and specifically the Grapefruit cake at the Hollywood Brown Derby. I guess I expected too much, but it was just OK.

Didnt think Id enjoy Cindys. Im not really into the characters(we went for my nieces), and before going I had read how they put all the food on 1 plate(I dont like food mixed, ie syrup in my eggs, or ketchup in my french toast). Plus hearing about the apple stuff on the FT was sort of getting me nervous(I dont really care for apple). Well, I thought the food was wonderful!!!! I would like to go again just for the food. I dont care if we even see the princesses. LOL!

I thought I would like Tonys because I really enjoy Italian food. It was just gross.

The restaurants I have been most disappointed in, after looking forward to trying, were Rainforest Cafe and Whispering Canyon. RC was just SO over-priced for perfectly average food, and WC's food was downright terrible. The only truly BAD meal I think I've ever had at WDW.

Oh, also Victoria & Albert's. Don't get me wrong, it was a fine meal, but it was so VASTLY over-hyped. I've had meals of comparable quality for half the money, and I found the service rather cold. California Grille is much more my style.

I can't say I didn't expect to enjoy Jiko, but I didn't expect to love it as much as I did. It immediately became my favorite restaurant anywhere. I have never before asked the server to compliment the chef for me, but I had to after this meal. And the chef actually came out to talk to us afterwards. This is now a must-do on every trip.

I've also been surprised at the quality of some of the counter-service restaurants. Pecos Bill's has great hamburgers. Not just good- great. And Columbia Harbour House has excellent clam chowder. Tusker House, in AK, surprised me with the quality of its selections, as well. Not at all what you'd expect from a counter-service place.

CP..in MK....1st time we went was out of sheer desperation on my part...I decided to take may DD3 and my DS 6 by myself to MK in July for 4 days...on day 3 by 3:00pm I was utterly exhausted. I walked up to the CP and the CM who was seating the PS must have been able to read my mind...we had no PS mind you.

This turned out to be the BEST place, not only did they have the charc...the food was GREAT!!! and to just sit in a beautiful atmosphere in the MK look at the castle...PRICELESS. Needless to say whenever we go to the MK now...with DH and kids (who are now older) we still make a point to eat at CP.

We were really looking forward to eating at Brown Derby/MGM and it was a great disapointment. Also, Le Cellier...other than appetizers and breadsticks is a disapointment.

Alfredo's was a huge excellent surprise!
Tubbis Buffeteria...excellent surprise
Lunch menu at Liberty tree tavern....excellent surprise

Chef Mickey's for dinner was not what we expected. It was DS's birthday and he had a blast with the characters, also service was wonderful. But the food was totally unmemorable. Can't even picture one thing on the buffet.

Biggest "pleasant surprise" was the Kona Cafe. Ate here twice while we were staying at the Polynesian and the food - service - atmosphere was lovely. And the kids enjoyed the fancy desserts.

Sorry to go off topic, but I'm new to the boards and don't know too much about posting. How do you guys list your upcoming trips, past trips, etc.? And how do you add those cute little smiley guys? Also, if I want to ask a question, do I have to start a new "thread"? Just call me cavewoman of the internet!
