Soooo stick with me because I know these are few DIFFERENT restaurants but if you had to pick between the two, that would be my answer. So my family and I are going in April and we try to try new restaurants. This time we are going to Maria and Enzo, the Edison, Ohana (I know, it's crazy we haven't been here yet) and Teppan Edo. So here's the thing about Teppan Edo. We went five years ago....and didn't like it at all. In fact I was drowning my stuff in the yum yum sauce to make it bearable. However tastes change, restaurants change, so we wanted to give it one more shot cause so many people recommend it.

We love hibachi back home, in fact its why I think we didn't like the first time because our home restaurant is soooo good. So my question is - is it worth it? The other option would be tutto it liana again...which we love so much.

Here's the wrench. We are staying at animal kingdom and I've heard crazy things about Boma. With that being said I can't eat spicy foods or anything like that cause I will be spending the day in my room...better yet my bathroom. Is it all spicy or smoky foods there or is it insane, amazing food? Cause if so I'd rather try that.

I know this post is all over the place, I am sorry. I just really want to have dinner at an amazing restaurant the first night seeing we just got back in January and I'd say 3 out of 4 nights were not good (primetime, liberty tree, and coral reef).

Thanks!

It's been a few years but we didn't love Teppan Edo. It's also something we could do anywhere. Love Tutto though we'll never do it for lunch again! We ended up back at the room for a three hour nap! Haven't tried Boma but I think you're safe with a restaurant you know you love!

I wanted to respond to your 'Ohana comment though! It's always been our family's must do. Everyone loves it for some reason even though the last several years it hasn't lived up to our expectations. I'd have cancelled it for our trip a few weeks ago except for the fact that we were staying at the Poly for the first time. I told my husband that the reviews had been consistently poor lately. We didn't have high hopes.

We had a 7 o'clock five days in with an exhausted 3 year old. The lobby was jam packed. We were seated at 6:55 just moments after checking in. The servers could not have been more gracious. Told us upfront to take as much time as we liked. Constantly checking for drink refills and offering seconds. We had a window seat. One server noticed our grandson not eating the food and brought him fries and chicken nuggets without us even asking. The food was good, the ambiance was perfect and the fireworks were the best ever! Hope you have an enjoyable dinner there!

If you've already eaten at Teppan Edo and didn't enjoy it I would rule that one out for sure. Haven't eaten at Tutto so can't comment on it, but if you're staying at AKL I'd say it's a no brainer...BOMA.

I have only one thing to say about Boma, all you can eat Zebra Domes for desert. After eating there twice on our last trip because we were staying at AKL this place has made our must eat at once each trip list.

We really enjoy Teppan Edo and go each trip, though it's more for the tradition than food quality. I find Teppan Edo to be about the same quality as the local hibachi places and don't think it's changed too much over the years. We really enjoyed Boma first time, not so much second time. I think there are a number of options that aren't particularly spicy, and you should be able to find something you like. That said, it's a buffet, and certainly not the same quality food you'd find at someplace like the California grill brunch.

Boma is an amazing restaurant with a huge variety of food . There are a few spicy dishes but nothing that you can't avoid. I brought my parents in law a couple of years ago and they are "steak and mash potatoes" kinda of people (who don't love exotic foods). They really enjoyed their meal there while my kids and husband were able to be more adventurous in their selection. The Zebra Domes are amazing by the way. In fact all the desserts were amazing.

Personally I don't like Teppan Edo. I find all the food tastes the same. Like you said they drown the food in Yum Yum sauce. :rotfl:

Teppan Edo is typica hibachi. We skip it because we have restaurants at home that do it better.
Boma has a wide variety of food from typical buffet to more african inspired cuisine. I like spicy food and have never considered it very spicy. Sanaa with its more Indian inspiration has far more spice and heat to it.
Tutto is consistant.
We really liko Jiko at AKL, but soundslike that may not be your type of flavors.

I'd skip teppan edo, honestly it was the most disappointing meal of the trip. The chefs are better at home and the food is better at home.

I'd go with Boma for convenience

Now see, I would say Teppan Edo. We love Teppan Edo and have never had a bad meal there. We go every time. We did not like Boma. We thought the food was average and the service was only so-so. So I guess it’s all about personal preference. I can’t comment on Tutto Italia. We’ve never been.

By the way, ‘Ohana is our favorite!

Couldn't agree more. I have been to Teppan Edo 5 times and only once walked away disappointed. I love sitting with others and many times that has made the experience for us. I have only been to Boma once and it was ok, though I'm just not big on buffets. Eating at your resort is nice though. I have not been to Tutto Italia but I don't eat much Italian on my vacations because I don't often find a big difference in the food between restaurants. If it was me though I would probably spend as much time at AKL as I could and would probably eat at Boma for that reason. Whatever you choose have a great trip.

We love Boma! I have family members with food allergies and the chefs walks them around the buffet and then usually make things to supplement. We also enjoy lunch at Tutto.

Boma it is! And we were able to switch to it no problem. I am excited and think its a good restaurant for the first night seeing that is where we are staying so we can go back, unpack and relax a bit. Thanks to everyone who commented!

I feel like the real question is there any actual good restaurants in Hollywood studios? Even magic kingdom or animal kingdom? And I am talking 1 table credit.

SciFi is a very unique Disney experience..its more about the theme than food, but definitely worth trying.
(Note, you sit in cars that can seat 4 or 6, so it’s not a great meal for table conversation) but it’s really fun watching the campy sci-fi clips at “night”, and it’s an enjoyable burger and milk shake (and consider adding onion rings)

Others think the theme of 50’s Prime time is a lot of fun.

So for me I think I really want good food with my dining plan cause I can get burgers on the quick service or pay out of pocket. I loved primetime and love the theme but the theme isn't as good as it once was. They used to be more interactive and really yell at you. Now they just seem tired and over it. Like ok we have to say this stuff. And the food as veryyy hospital cafe. We finished apps, entrees, and dessert in 30 minutes cause that's how fast it was put out.

So your answer is that you do not like 50’s and you don’t think Sci Fi is worth it.
Mama Melrose has decent reviews.
Hollywood Brown Derby is an expensive Signature.

so tried brown derby and the food was eh. infact the waitress said "the desserts are gross here so if you want to use a appetizer as your dessert, I won't charge you." I was shocked haha. I think SciFi would be worth it if I was paying out of pocket and not on the disney plan. I guess for me if I am going to spend money on the dining plan, I want to be wow'd. Like I love chefs de France but that's my personal taste and know it won't taste as great as anywhere home.

I think my family and I might try to do without the disney dining plan one trip and see what happens. I am a pastry chef so we all appreciate sitting down and having a great meal when some families like quick things to get back into the park. I am excited for the four places we are going to try this time and excited that none of them are in the park so we don't have to go to specific parks because of dinner that night.

Out of those three, hands down Boma! There are so many food options, and quite a few are more "tame." Also, want to jump on the 'Ohana comments...We've done dinner once and breakfast twice. Overwhelmingly kind hostesses and waitstaff, extremely generous and patient!!
