While I've used II (and RCI and other exchange companies) for various exchanges and rental weeks ... my favorite way to enjoy new places abroad is by cruise ship.
Consider that many timeshare locations are intended to be "away" even for locals. They may be situated out in the country or along a scenic waterway -- but not especially close to major sightseeing destinations.
A ship gives you the opportunity to visit many important cities without having to pack/unpack/repack. Planned excursions provide narration with hassle-free navigation.
You may want to consider itineraries that move from Barcelona to Lisbon (around the Iberian peninsula) ... or hop between the Greek islands ... or visit the Scandinavian Capitals.
Add a pre-/post-cruise land package to give you added time on either end. We've especially enjoyed added days in Barcelona, Rome, London, Istanbul and other major ports with our cruises.
Seriously ... your best abroad values and logistics may be gained through cruising rather than timeshare stays.
PS: Now would be a great time to visit Athens. The city is sure to be beautiful and yet-glowing from the recent Olympics.
