I know this is probably already discussed here somewhere but I cannot quite find it and I was just curious. We are expecting child nr 3 this fall and know that we will have to do a considerable add-on because we will no longer be able to vacation in the studio when he turns 3. I, being the planning type, am trying to figure out how much money I need to save as well as keeping an eye on the resale market for the perfect contract so I was just curious if anyone could tell me which 1BR sleep 5? I know AKV, BLT sleep 5, but didn't OKW get refurb. with a sleeper chair? I have also heard of people putting 5 in the 1BR for 4 but how does that work with KTTW cards etc? I have 3 years to find the perfect contract but I would like to know what I am hunting down... We currently own VWL and love it so maybe I should just add on enough for the 2BR.

thanks!

Currently Disney is allowing 5 in a 1 BR (bring your own sheets/towels for guest 5)
That un-written policy is subject to change without notice, so I would only buy where 5 can officially be occupants, or where you can afford 2BR points. The upgrade from studio to 1BR seems huge, but the upgrade from 1BR to some 2BR does not seem as bad.

(VB and GCV also sleep 5.)

I'm in a similar situation as yours (our 5th has just turned 1), but unlike you have never thought about it being a "problem" until now. We just bought SSR & are waiting for FROR... so have we messed up for future trips after our baby turns 3?

Not sure if I would call it a problem just typical mom brain. There are some great contracts out there so an add-on in the future could be possible. I just really do not want to get into a habit of banking, borrowing, renting from another member etc because I know in the long run it is cheaper to buy another contract. I would stick to yours and find out if you want more points at SSR or if there is another resort you like. I think I may use this as an excuse to get an equal number of points at my fave resorts so I can enjoy my vacations, but I will have to do it slowly.

Thanks everyone for the help!

Obvious a single studio will not work after the youngest turns 3.

Worst case scenario, you would have to book a 2BR. (Or 2 studios) for your family @ SSR

Within the current system, you should be OK getting into OKW or AKV at 7mo. Just don't be suprised if DVC

The Disney Vacation Club resorts with sleeping accommodations for 5 in a One Bedroom villa are:

Old Key West
Vero Beach
Animal Kingdom Villas (non-Value rooms)
Bay Lake Tower
Grand Californian
Aulani

Resorts with sleeping accommodations for 9 in a Two Bedroom villa are:

Old Key West
Vero Beach
Animal Kingdom Villas (non-Value rooms)
Bay Lake Tower
Grand Californian
Aulani
Treehouse Villas

DVC currently permits 5/9 guests of any age at other resorts, but the villas will only sleep 4/8. Those destinations include:

Hilton Head Island
BoardWalk Villas
Wilderness Lodge
Beach Club Villas
Saratoga Springs

Due to villa size limitations, AKV Value room occupancy is fixed at 4 in a One Bedroom and 8 in a Two Bedroom.

Are you sure this is accurate? I know the 5 in 1 b/r is allowed through MS but had understood that MS wouldn't allow 9 (even though it is the same situation with the lock-off unit).

Just wondering if you or anyone else has actually booked 9 in a 2 b/r at BWV.

TIA!!!

Because occupacy is a hot topic here onthe DVC forumns, we limit all occupancy discussion to the DVC Occupancy Thread. You may continue this discussion there, if you wish.
