I'm hearing that some of the resorts are getting wifi now. My friend said they have it at POFQ when she was there last week. Yes! Which other resorts have it? I'll be at POP in March -- any chance we'll have wifi there?

I know the deluxe resorts have wifi now, (WL had it in December!:cool1:) but I'm not sure about moderates and values...

Pop doesn't have it. Sorry to say. I was really hoping it would during my stay. I've not read anything that said they would have it either. :( You might do a search for the thread talking about wifi at the resorts.

Do you have to use the cable they provide in the rooms to get it or does it just go through the computers built in router? Thanks for the info as we have a ressie at POR for 9/26/12 thru 10/2/12 and this would be a great addition to the vacation to have an internet connection:thumbsup2 .

We are booked at POR for 4/1 and our reservation description states the wifi is FREE. I read the speed is around 1MB download.

Not exactly.

In-Room High Speed Internet Access (HSIA)

Availability: All Disney resorts have in-room High-Speed Internet Access. WDW Swan and Dolphin also have high-speed internet access in their rooms.
Fee:
-- COMPLIMENTARY for guests staying in Suite accommodations at Walt Disney World resort hotels.
-- $9.95 for a contiguous 24-hour period at other Walt Disney World resort accommodations.
NOTE: Disney Vacation Club Members have "free" wired broadband internet access when staying in a Disney Vacation Club Resort on points. (This perk began in January 2008.)
The WDW Swan and Dolphin Resorts include use of High-Speed Internet access in the $10/night resort fee that is charged. (tax not included).

Requirements: A Local Area Network (LAN) cable is provided in resort rooms, usually in a bag on a hanger in the closet area. If you do not have one, request one from the front desk. Fort Wilderness Preferred Camp Sites - Reserve the modem kit before your arrival. Then visit the Front Desk to receive the necessary Modem kit once you are at there. A $125 refundable deposit is required.
Technical Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by touching 56 from any Disney resort room or house phone.
Other Information:
If you do not want to or can not use the in-room HSIA, you have several other options. You may use regular dial-up in the room (check for telephone charges), use wireless connections (see below for details) or visit a resort with a business center (convention hotels).
Only one device can be plugged into the HSIA terminal at a time.
Most rooms have cables in the closet. Some rooms have cables connected to the modem.

WiFi (Wireless Fidelity) High Speed Wireless Internet Access

WiFi is available to those staying at certain Disney resorts. If your laptop computer or mobile device is WiFi enabled, you'll be able to access the internet from the common areas of these resorts.
NOTE: A complimentary Wireless Internet (WiFi) Pilot program is in effect at a limited number of select Walt Disney World resorts (see call-out above).
When you connect to the network using a wireless-enabled device (e.g. laptop, cell phone, etc.), you will see a network option labeled "Guest * Access (unsecured)." Click on that option, and you will be taken to a screen that prompts you to accept the terms and conditions. After accepting the terms and conditions, you will have free wireless internet access. Internet access is available in areas that aren't part of the pilot program for a fee: $9.95 per day for public areas (wireless) and guest rooms (wired). This pilot program is testing a new configuration of wireless/cell phone coverage. After the pilot is complete (in about 30 days), Disney will evaluate the results and will consider expanding wireless access to other areas of Walt Disney World Resort hotels.

Requirements: a wireless interface card installed on your device. These are available for purchase in each resort's business center.

From the Disney World website for a POR standard room:

All rooms have 2 double-size beds, table and chairs, vanity area with 2 sinks, a ceiling fan, a privacy curtain between the vanity and room, and a bathroom. Some rooms offer a trundle bed. (Trundle bed is 35" X 65" and not recommended for Guests over 9 years of age). All rooms are non-smoking. Amenities include in-room wall safe, voice mail, complimentary Wi-Fi access, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, mini fridge and coffeemaker. A Pack 'n Play® playard is available upon request. Wheelchair-accessible rooms are available. These rooms offer views of the Resort hotel, landscaping, courtyard, garden or bayou.

Pretty sure complementary means free. :)

Or just call POP directly and ask, 407-938-4000

Please be advised the published numbers for the resorts go to a CCC. Some of the CM's will have it right and some will be clueless. You will get more accurate info here. I never suggest calling the CCC.
