My husband and I are taking our 25th anniversary trip to WDW. problem is we are not sure where to stay. We want a little privacy(dont get out much without a bunch of kids), but are on a budget. Hubby wants to stay off disney because we can stay cheaper with a nicer place(bigger). any suggestions would be great! going in Feb so hoping for free dining. Do any of the resorts have a grill to use besides the cabins at fw?

Are you going just the 2 of you? If so, I'd suggest POR riverside. It's a moderate resort, and just beautiful. Request the mansion section. Either Magnolia Terrace or Acadian House, close to Old Man island bridge. Nice location. The resort is built along a river, love strolling along the river path, landscaping is beautiful, boat to DTD, horse & carriage rides, and all the perks of staying on site.
Rooms have been newly refurbished. It's one of our fav resorts. It's a totally different feel staying on site, and I think more magical.

You'd get more accurate answers if you included more info, if it's not just the 2 of you, how many and ages.

I would recommend the Swan. It's about the same price as a moderate resort but tends to have very few children. My husband and I have stayed there several times with starwood points for a very cheap rate. The restaurants are upscale and romantic, they have a great sushi place with karaoke, a nice big pool area and quiet pool that rarely has any kids at all. You can walk to the Boardwalk at night and take in Jellyrolls, Atlantic Dance, ESPN club, etc. There are tons of grown-up things around that area. Walk down to the bridge and watch the Illuminations fireworks. Rent a boat, that would be super romantic. You are close to everything! :)

Make sure you wear your Happy Anniversary pins on your trip! We got free dessert and glasses of champagne at several restaurants. :thumbsup2

I agree with the Swan and Dolphin, HOWEVER...they are not Disney owned so NO free dining ( or dining plan of any kind) and No Magical Express..

:woohoo:  I agree with this completely.

DW, DS and I stayed at the Swan last year and really loved it. There are 5 or 6 top notch restaurants in walking distance.

Thooygh we are stying at POR on our next visit (9 of us with 5 youngsters), my wife and I have already decided that the next time we go on an "adult" trip down there, we are definitely staying at the Swan.

Like this poster said, deluxe stay for mod price.

If free dining is a must, then a mod is better. For a couple, I'd go with POFQ, the grounds are very romantic at night, and there is a boat to DTD.

Congratulations on your 25th Anniversary!

Have you considered "renting" DVC points from a member? We had the opportunity of doing so for our vaca in June and ended up spending less than we would have at a Moderate resort.

If you can do this, I would highly recommend the AKL Kidani Villas. They are extremely quiet and isolated- which gives you plenty of the privacy which you are asking for. In addition, the villa which we "rented" was a 1-bedroom which had plenty of space for just 2 of us!

While the individual rooms themselves did not have grills, there was a "grilling facility" on-site near the tennis courts which we did see guests using on several occasions.

If you decide not to rent points, I also hear that the Swan is quite a nice resort to stay that would give you a bit more privacy.

Good luck and enjoy!

i did think about renting points is it hard to do? the villas have kitchens dont they? thank you 25years and 4 kids later we deserve a break

No, its not at all hard to rent points. It was my first time planning a WDW vacation and somehow I managed to do it without a problem at all!

The studio villas have kitchenettes.

The 1-bedroom villa has a full kitchen (stovetop, oven, microwave, toaster, fridge/freezer), 2 full bathrooms (so you can both get ready at the same time if you need extra space) and a washer/dryer (which comes in handy if you ever want to wear the same "dirty" outfit twice, or dry a bathing suit faster!

There are many DVC websites out there which you can use to "rent" points. These range from sites where you are in direct contact with the owner to sites where a "broker" acts as the middle-man in the deal.

If you would like, I can give you some of the links which I used (just send me a PM). Or, check out the "DVC Rent/Trade" Board here on DisBoards!
